Forums Payment cards American Express Do any platinum benefits remain after closing?

    Just wondering as I’m sure I’ve read this somewhere. Do some of the benefits unintentionally stick around ie hotel status? If so for how long? Whilst I think I’ve read the priority pass membership ends immediately?

    The hotel memberships usually hang around until at least the end of your current membership cycle (e.g., whenever you would normally need to requalify for the following year).

    Priority Pass goes immediately as it is backed by your Amex Plat.

    Access to Lufthansa and Plaza Premium lounges probably disappear immediately. Some have only ever asked me to show my Plat card, others swipe it… I assume swiping it will inform them whether it is active or not.

    Hertz goes immediately because, again, it is backed by your Amex Plat.

    Clearly the HN and Dining Credits disappear immediately, as does your access to FH&R.

    Not sure about Avis, as I only used it to status match to Hertz President’s Club.

    Great thanks. If any others have experienced the hotel benefits hanging around even longer let me know.

    You get to keep the metal card, which is excellent for scraping baked on grease from ovens and ovenware that even Oven Pride gel can’t shift. It’s a niche benefit I know but you’ll thank me later for the tip.

    Radisson hangs around forever. I think it’s 7 years now since I had a platinum and my Radisson status is still there despite only 2 stays in that time.

    Why is there a need for people to let you know? If you get the card, apply for the statuses. If they hang around after you close the card, great. What else do you need? No need to come here and tell people so that the hotel chain stop doing that.

    You can also commit fraud with a close Platinum and enter the Eurostar lounges.

    You can still use the Plat card at Eurostar lounges

    @cin3 – I’m not sure why you consider it appropriate to offer such negligent ‘advice’ that might encourage someone to break the law and be in breach of contract. All for some cheap food and wine.

    Yes, just like I said you could. It just comes with a side of fraud.

    Supposedly you can also use it for airport fast track in some European airports? There was some thread about access to some airports.

    @Maples

    How was I any more negligent than the post that was submitted while I waited for the forum timeout to post mine?

    Though if you must know, frankly I’m not particularly bothered about being in breach of contract when I’m sure dozens of us do it all the time. We both know nothing will ever come of it even if someone does knowingly attempt to defraud.
