Hi there, stoopid newbie here, applied for the free card, not being made aware at the time that it limits me to only economy CV.
Kicking myself as already spent enough to have got the 60k of welcome bonus on the platinum one!but had to go with boosting the 5k avois from the blue card 🙁
My question – do Amex have offers ever where bonus Avios are offered to UPGRADE EXISTING CARDHOLDER to platinum? Just wondering whether to just accept I won’t get any more bonus points and upgrade, or wait for a flash sale to come… Thank you all for your help in advance!
First of all make sure you find out the difference between Amex Platinum and BA Premium Plus before you try changing cards!
You can call or chat with Amex and ask – it is possible to upgrade but they don’t always allow it. There is an application route strategy but I can’t remember if it only applies to downgrading.
There is plenty of information on this process in the dedicated Amex/BAPP threads.
@Bidders – I’m not sure if there has ever been an upgrade bonus for switching from the BA Amex free card to the BAPP paid one. I think PRG > Platinum is the only upgrade path where they give an upgrade bonus in line with the SUB, absent a 24 month wait.
BA Premium plus Amex upgrade link – some have reported if “computer says no”, this might work:
