Forums Payment cards Other payment cards Don’t use Hilton Debit for points purchases

Bought my “Diamond” points using Hilton Debit – and although I triggered the new card bonus spend bonus OK, I didn’t get any points for the transaction itself.
This was the response when I queried it – so be careful when using it for this type of purchase…
“Directly purchasing Points for loyalty services are classed as a “payment in relation to financial products” which, as per our Terms and Conditions, are not eligible for earning Hilton Honors Points via your Personal Hilton Honors Debit Card.
We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused”

This is an appalling card. You shouldn’t use it for any purchase.

Yes, pay the subscription to obtain Gold tier, use abroad and then in the UK use the free ARCC to earn more Hilton points than you can ever earn from that card.

Why do you think it’s a dreadful card?

…because there is a list as long as your arm of excluded categories. You’ll earn more Hilton points spending on an Amex MR card and without having to worry about excluded categories.

Excluded categories for points earning I can live with.

They also exclude just about every possible intermediary wallet or payment service for payments at all, not just points. This makes simple things like buying a domestic flight in India impossible. Useless in my experience outside of Europe, and in Europe I have other choices. Relying on this card in a distant foreign country is, err, heroic.

The T&C seem to have changed from when Froggee pasted them on HFP in Sep 2024

They used to say “Points cannot be earned on the following transactions:” with a list.

The list is still there but more verbose and also now preceded by “Ineligible spending categories include but are not limited to:”

It’s a sock drawer card once you’ve paid the subscription, if you require a cheap route to Gold tier. It won’t be around long term.

Perhaps more pants drawer? As far as I can ascertain it’s a relatively cheap breakfast subscription if you are a non status regular guest and attribute any value to a Hilton breakfast but as a spending card, hmm.

It did give me points for Hilton points purchases (not sure how) and it seemed a good deal for foreign spending, especially in Hilton properties abroad or am I missing something?

If you can’t preauthorise then does it mean you can’t use the card at check-in in a hotel? This does seem a bit pointless if you are using it at a Hilton Hotel?

The debit card wouldn’t add to Curve and I couldn’t get it to work with Paypal which is frustrating.
