Hi
I’ve not found an answer to this by searching so I hope someone can confirm to me.!
I recently have booked a return flight MAN to DEL via LHR using the book and upgrade option on the BA website, so I paid the premium economy price and used Avios to upgrade to business. Will I earn tier points / Avois on this flight based on the premium economy entitlement or does the book and upgrade then make this count as a reward flight? I need 240 tier points to get to the next tier so I am trying to work out how close this will get me if at all!
Thanks
Matt
Was discussed at some length in the comments on the article on this subject published this morning.
Yes you earn points on the cash ticket, so assuming it was originally ticketed as Y in Economy MAN – LHR you’ll get 20 + 90 each way = 210 in total.
It should tell you in MMB what you will earn.
Thank you so much – I hadn’t seen that article but have read it and the comments now!
It should tell you in MMB what you will earn.
In MMB it says:
Rewards for this booking: 8,553 Avios | 360 Tier Points
Flight calculator results offer an estimate and do not include eligible add-ons purchased on other airlines. Your final total may change depending on the cabin, carrier, route and date that you book.I guess that the 360 can’t be right and the sentence below it is the caveat!
That’s an odd one. The Avios can potentially vary with various factors, but I’ve never known the TP to be wrong. 360 suggests 4 x 90, so maybe it’s counting the MAN – LHR legs as Premium (which they could never have actually been). I’ve booked Premium long haul + a short haul onwards connection and was Y in Economy for the second leg earning 20TP each way, but never added an Avios upgrade to that combination which may have confused this one.
Someone here may have done the same combination you are.
The tier points are wrong it’s a known bug
The system thinks you have club tickets so should get 40+140 each way = 360. I would think you’ll get 10 +90 each way = 200 if the flights award per the original paid ticket
Check the booking class in MMB for the MAN-LHR leg as depending on the letter, it could be 5, 10 or 20!
@e14 good point (no pun intended), hadn’t spotted that permutation.
@MrWhite now it’s been upgraded with avios you won’t see the original class, but as it was a ‘Premium’ connection into a long haul I would expect it to have been Y earning 20TP, that’s what I’ve had in the past with onward connections.
