Is anyone else having problems receiving Avios from the 18K promotion?

Signed up and received the Amex cashback, but not Avios. I’ve been chasing now for 3 weeks.

Economist live chat basically worked through a list of false reasons, including not used the correct landing page, incorrect BA exec details, etc. He tried hard to push me away. Escalated by phone to a seemingly helpful manager, he confirmed that they had correct BA Exec details, and points had been sent. I provided a BA statement screen grab to prove Avios not received. But no progress just holding email responses. So then emailed to ask to cancel my subscription and refund in full as they had not provided the offer I signed up for, chased again, but just radio silence.

Do I instigate a charge back claim with Amex? I would appreciate the collective thoughts of HFP.

I can`t help much as my avios credited almost immediately. What may be of use, however, is that when I rang to cancel they gave me a 50% cash refund.

Still chasing from subscription took out last year. I emailed customerservices@subscriptions.economist.com and got a reply “Our Marketing director has been in contact with the Avios team who confirmed they will be working to update your Avios Account so that you get points awarded as soon as possible. Unfortunately, we’re unable to give an exact timeline. Please apologize for the delay, please be on the lookout for the points.” This was on 5 Feb and still nothing in BAEC. Chat/phone agents are hopeless.

Update on Economist Avios not posted. Having exchanged multiple emails with the Economist, today they advised that they had asked for assistance from their Avios liason to post the missing Avios. But,having not heard back from them that they would grant my request for a full refund, even though a couple of months into my subscription. Refund issued today.

I’m still struggling to get Avios from last year too – after a few back and forths where they suggested I cancel and sign up in the current offer (no refund offered), they seem to have stopped replying and have just ignored me for 6 weeks.

Not much help for your predicament but I signed up on 12th March and I had the Avios on 4th April.

So just over 3 weeks for mine to post.

I’ve been chasing the 15000 bonus Avios for weeks but they keep fobbing me off. Is there anything I can do? They told me I’m eligible and had the cash back.

Demand a full refund. See my post above.

I received below from The Economist relating to subscription taken out last year. The points definitely not in my BAEC.

“Thank you for your patience and I am sorry for the delay and from our end it would look like everything was correct and Avios confirmed to us that they added the 18000 points to your account on February 2nd 2022. I would recommend you try to reach out to Avios here https://www.avios.com/gb/en/contact-us as at this point we’re not sure if there is anything else that we can do on our end.”

BAEC number was entered when I subscribed, so is it even plausible that the points came from Avios (presumably referring to the Rewards Program) since they separated in 2018 albeit sharing the same currency? Don’t want to be barking on the wrong tree. Would make sense only BAEC can add avios to a BAEC account?

Thought I’d just flag that I did the economist offer for 15k mid October and avios got credited yesterday.

I’m still awaiting mine. I guess I should probably chase it.

    Tedious.

I just emailed the address above and got an auto-reply to say that address is no longer in use.
Will be interested to hear if/how anyone else resolves this and receives the avios.

The Economist has a new email supportteam@economist.com. CS usually needs to escalate to Marketing Director who would liaise with Avios to deposit the points into your BAEC.

Ps it’s counter-intuitive as one would have thought Avios.com had nothing to do with BAEC for some years, but it’s them who actually deposits the points.

I never got Avios off economist. Did a section 75 claim off my credit card, claiming the full costs of purchasing the missing Avios. They paid this out about 6 months later, so ended up making a profit.

Thanks for that new email address, Gary. I signed up to the October offer but have had nothing yet, so have just emailed them to chase.

I signed up on 27th October, and the points posted on 16th November.

I’ve not had my points posted yet either. I signed up 8th October. Off to chase. 🙁

I am having an issue. I signed up 2 months ago, received nothing.

I chased. At first they told me to Contact British Airways? After pretending to have done that an email has been escalated, but they are very very slow to deal with this.

I will give it another 2 weeks or so, after that I am just going to do a chargeback via Amex.

Which email address have you used please? I’ve used the one quoted above but had no response yet

So am I understanding that after I get the Avios points in my BAEC account, I can cancel for some sort of cash refund?

I think what pbcold is referring to is discount on renewal when he tried to cancel before next payment.

I signed up recently after it was highlighted on HFP with the £60 Amex rebate. No interest in the economist and I forget I even have access but it was essentially a cheap offer to buy Avios.

How long is it meant to be until the points post after sign up? If they don’t show I will do a chargeback.

I was about to sign up for the Economist offer given it’s still a cheaper way of buying avios even with the current 40% sale bonus BA are offering on avios purchase, but having read the above thread I’m not sure it’s worth the faf!

In case it’s of any use, I’ve just found this reference on the Economist website page titled “Can I earn Avios with a subscription to The Economist?” where they state: “We aim to credit points within 35 days of purchase. For points to be credited, the details entered and those on your subscription must match your Avios membership account. If you are have not received the points after this time, please contact our dedicated service centre where we will be happy to assist.” https://rb.gy/nhboyi The “dedicated service centre” link directs to this page https://myaccount.economist.com/s/contact-us
