Hello – I cancelled my original Barclaycard Avios Plus just over 6 months ago (my husband then got the same card and the welcome bonus, albeit annoyingly we couldn’t benefit from the 100k offer when they did it!), and so was going to re-open it today, based on the HFP article: “The sign-up bonus is available to everyone, unless you have had any other Barclaycard credit card in the previous six months”…
However, on the Barclaycard application T&CS it says otherwise: “. If you close your card account after you receive your Avios Welcome Bonus and then open another Barclaycard Avios card account within 2 years after you closed the original account, you will not be eligible for another Avios Welcome Bonus.” Full document is here: https://www.barclaycard.co.uk/content/dam/barclaycard/documents/personal/existing-customers/avios-reward-rules-october.pdf
I wondered if anyone has experience of how tightly this is applied (assuming it is)? I wasn’t sure if this is something new…
The article was probably written when the Barclaycard Avios ones were first launched, so at that time you couldn’t apply if you didn’t hold a Barclaycard and hadn’t closed one in the previous six months as BC only allows one card to be held at a time. So it is very definite a six month gap between cards just to be able to apply again but a two year gap to get a second Avios SUB.
I was also under the impression that there would be a two year gap between SUBs (happy to be corrected by the experience of others). But, my question is…can I sign up for the free BC under this offer (not getting the SUB as less than 2 years) so that I have a better earning card than my current free virgin card and then cancel in time to have a 6 month window before applying for the paid BC 2 years after last receiving a SUB? Or do I have to have a 2 year gap of holding any BC before I can get a SUB again?
Apologies, it’s a bit convoluted and I hope it makes sense, but I would like an avios BC but also want to guarantee a SUB when available in Summer ‘24.
Thanks
The terms (copied below) are not totally clear on this and I think might give them the scope not to give you a second SUB by following your plan. I’m quite sure they won’t give you a definitive response if you ask. Thus you won’t get the “guarantee” you seek and in any event it is a bit optimistic to expect they will necessarily regularly accept reapplications irrespective of your credit status.
“We’ll only apply one Avios Welcome Bonus in relation to your card to your BAEC account during the lifetime of your card account. If you close your card account after you receive your Avios Welcome Bonus and then open another Barclaycard Avios card account within 2 years after you closed the original account, you will not be eligible for another Avios Welcome Bonus.”
Can anyone give me clarity on if I will get a SUB for the Plus card? I had a very old balance transfer Barclaycard which I had not used in 2+ years so could not get another one so I cancelled it 6 months ago. If I applied for the Plus card now would I get the 25000 SUB?

Yes, because you have not held a card for over 6 months.
