    Hey Folks,

first post on the forum (but have been one of those who have been reading all the time in the backgroun)

I am due to purchase a flight for the family which would cost around 7k and was wondering if AmexPlatinum is the best card to use?

I also have access to the other American express cashback card. Thoughts please

That’s a significant spend which would earn you 7k MR points on the Platinum card. You don’t whether you collect avios or other airline points, but for something like that I’d personally be leaning towards applying for the BAPP/ avios Barclaycard/Virgin MC to get a good deal of the way towards one of the vouchers and possibly a SUB.

I don’t fly on Emirates so not sure how points generally work with them!

Of course you’d need the time for the application process, which might not fit in with your travel plans.

Otherwise, what’s more useful to you – MR points or cash back?

I think you might get more out of the Platinum travel insurance for booking with the card, if that matters.
