In mid June, for travel in early 2024, you could book DUB-LHR-EWR return, short haul in business, long haul in first, for 2 adults using a BAPP 241, off peak (max Avios) for 166,000 Avios and £584.72.
Today, if I’m not mistaken, the lowest Avios price for the same is showing as 166,000 Avios and £918.78. Over £300 more.
Can anyone confirm if this is another hike in BA surcharges and not an error? I’ve ensured the layover back in London is way below 24hr.
Perhaps the error was the £584 pricing a few weeks ago? I appreciate that since the extension of RFS to long haul business, the ex-EU savings have been negated but I thought (and recent pricing seemed to back this up) that an ex-EU First trip escaped this issue (so long as it was a return in First and not a mix of long haul business and First which then complicates things)?
Any reason you want to book the last leg LHR-DUB. (Hint)
It would cause complications with the 241, but worth pricing up separately, I guess.
Haha true…if I end up booking this (at the higher price) I just call BAEC to price it up? Assume no call centre charges as wasn’t bookable online with 241?
Yes or book separate legs and ask for 50% avios back (read up on this if you’re not familiar with the process).

Exactly

Why would you even consider that when the TFCs ex US are horrendous ?

It would mean a phone booking ? If that’s what you mean by a complication
That is definitely a complication, especially given the erroneous surcharges people have been quoted recently.
But F from NYC would be a bit of a waste, really. Save some avios and cash and book the 8 am flight in economy for 25k avios plus £50. Or PE if you really can’t do Y for 6 hours.
Can confirm I already booked this earlier this year and I paid around £600 level, agree this has gone up now to around £1000. Seems to be only US routes though, some other routes look ok still. It’s still a saving clearly but not as good as it was.
