Forums Frequent flyer programs Virgin Flying Club Ex USA redemption – return or 2x one way?

  • 24 posts

    Hi there,
looking at booking a redemption on VS starting in the USA with a voucher. Aware that it’s possible to book one leg at a time and for the call centre to ‘keep half’ of the voucher for later.
Is there any cost advantage of booking as 2x one ways, vs one rtn all together?

The opposite, the surcharges are much more expensive if you book as 2 x one-way. If you book the outbound then ask Virgin to add the return, they will re-calculate the surcharges so you don’t lose out.

It’s not clear how much change there will be to current prices and policies when the new system comes online next month.

That would be right if booking an ex-UK trip to the USA. However, in this instance (ex-US) two one-ways are likely to be cheaper, e.g. by about £500 if booking JFK-LHR return.

That’s due to the difference in ex-US vs ex-UK surcharges.

But yes, we don’t know if that will change next week, although I think we do know that holding a half voucher on your account will no longer be possible

To clarify, the £500 cheaper is for UC. It will obviously be less for Economy or Premium.

How are you getting that? I’m seeing the surcharges for JFK-LHR in Upper at $1027, and £647 for LHR-JFK. You’re saying booking a return would be more than this?!

    Yes, $2413 return from JFK-LHR. 🙁

Always, check out one ways…invariably less expensive, and not just Virgin.
