On 7 October I received an email from Barclays stating “With your Barclaycard Avios Plus credit card and Barclays Avios Rewards, you have everything you need to collect your 100,000 Avios bonus. To qualify for it, simply keep them open until at least 09 February 2023. We’ll then get in touch to let you know you’ve qualified for the Avios bonus and that it’s been paid into your British Airways Executive Club account (the 100,000 Avios bonus won’t show in your Barclays app1.) T&Cs apply. Don’t forget, the 100,000 Avios bonus is on top of the standard joining and welcome bonuses you may be eligible for.”
However in the T&cs it states “You won’t be eligible for the Avios Bonus if you hold both products prior to the Qualifying Period.”
Which one is correct?
If I am not eligible can I downgrade the Barclaycard to the free card and then rejoin to collect the 100K
Many thanks
@Aggee338 I’m not sure the email and T&Cs are they incompatible. The published terms will govern the promotion over anything else.
The 100k promotion is for opening both products or the one didn’t hold after 3 October. If you held both prior to 3 October, many have reported receiving a separate bonus just prior to the launch of this promotion. In respect of downgrading and then upgrading the Avios card, that entirely depends on what offers you have in the app, but it seems quite unlikely you would see that offer before the end of the promotion.
I disagree and think they are incompatible, or at least confusing. A personalised email (I had the same) telling you that you’re eligible for an offer and all you have to do is keep accounts open until a certain date is pretty clear. Obviously they have all the relevant dates needed etc so why would this email have been sent otherwise, except in error?
Maybe Rob can provide some clarity?
The email header was “Great news – you’re eligible for a 100,000 Avios bonus”
I think that is very clear!

Be prepared for a long fight just incase they decide not to post the 100k. Screenshot all emails and current terms and conditions
Did you already have Avios Rewards switched on for £12pm?

You say the header is clear, but the email is very brief and clearly linked to the terms; nothing hidden. The terms would prevail in any dispute. What is clear is that you haven’t been very transparent in your question or response (ie the date on which you held both products or took the second one) and didn’t get the hoped for answer! Barclays offered 25,000 Avios to those who held both products prior to the start of the 100k offer on 3 October. If you just missed the cutoff for the 25k, maybe you got this email? The bottom line is that if you are genuinely entitled to the 100k offer, then it one way or another you will get the Avios. If not, it’s a matter of luck but if they didn’t turn up you are unlikely to get them via a complaint. You need to give the full facts if you want a proper answer
