Visiting Tenerife in around May next year with a 3 year old. We’ll have a few nights in RC Abama, and looking for somewhere less remote for a few nights. Any suggestions of interesting hotels/towns to stay in? Also happy to rent an apartment.
Don’t need a beach, but a pool would be nice. A town with nice places to walk/things to see and good places to eat – ideally easy to get to RC Abama from. Somewhere like Cadiz in mainland Spain would be ideal, but I don’t really know Tenerife.
Adeje is pleasant, nice beach areas with lots of restaurants and cafes. Lots of hotels with pools.
If you want somewhere historical like Cadiz you really need to head north to Santa Cruz, Garachico or La Laguna, though those wouldn’t be hugely convenient if you’re returning from TFS.

Counterpoint: Tenerife is really best enjoyed with a hire car and it’s pretty quick and easy to cross the Island. It’s hard to be much more than an hour’s drive from TFS.
Assuming you have a car, I’d take a look at the Iberostar in Santa Cruz. It’s a nice hotel in its own right, has a proper pool, walkable into the city, park next door for the kid to run around in, bus stop right outside if you don’t fancy walking. Good base for a trip up Anaga or a visit to Teresitas beach (arguably the best on the island). You can make the most of the transfer from RC by taking the TF21/24 past Teide and along the spine of the island.
BTW Bus travel from Santa Cruz is good, easy to get to Teresitas beach and too and from both airports.
I agree it’s all worth exploring, it depends how amenable the 3-year-old is though!
Puerto de la Cruz is also worth visiting, that end of the island is much lusher and greener than the more arid south (though this can make the weather a bit unpredictable), with spectacular view of Mt Teide. It has plenty of hotels and a nice lido to make up for the lack of beach – although it does get quite a lot of tourists, they tend to be older and a bit more sedate than the Los Cristianos crew!
Thanks! Good options there for me to look at…
We stayed at GF Victoria (Costa Adeje, not far from airport) with our daughter of a similar age a couple of years ago after a recommendation on here. It has plenty of pools, a kids club to give you some child free time, and even the basic rooms have a lounge area with sofabed that you can close off at night (and has own bathroom), which allows you to switch off lights for them at their bedtime, and stay up in your ‘room’ much later.
Breakfast buffet is amazing too.
