What’s the betting that BA IT managed to give him tier points for this flight?

There are more serious issues with what happened in that case than whether he got points (not that he would because he didn’t have a ticket)

For those that don’t want to click links someone basically managed to get through LHR security (though was cleared) and boarding gate to board a flight to NYC without detection.

No passport, no ticket, a history of mental health issues. Entered security by tailgaiting an automatic gate, went through full security screening, and boarded plane again by tailgating it seems. Only found out in NYC when unable to produce a passport.
I am amazed the plane was happy to take off with an incorrect number of passengers on board (number of passengers not matching the boarding passes scanned)
He was deported back to UK, where he has troublingly gone missing. Although an embarrassment for airport security, he does not seem to have had sinister motives, and it is sad the authorities do not seem more concerned with his safety now.

    – Passed UK security at airport
    – Entered UK plane bound to the US (these have extra security)
    – Managed to spend the whole flight undetected
    – Caught in the US because he cannot produce a passport
    – Sent back to the UK where he is put in a mental health clinic and he escapes again
UK seems to struggle to keep track of people …

Shocking failure by BA and HAL. Particularly galling for anyone who has ever had to go through the extra checks required by finding the dreaded SSSS on their boarding pass.

BA will be have been or are expecting a fine from U.S. CBP for transporting an inadmissible passenger…

BA Stayer IHG Stayer, very obviously there are more serious issues and very obviously he would not have earned tier points due to non-payment.

The tier points comment was just to add humour to the series of failures here..!

This is astonishing (though seems to happen quite regularly!) I’m pretty sure I’d know about it if someone tailgated me through security or the automatic passport machines at the boarding gate (presumably that’s what he did).

Slightly less worrying, this tickled me recently!

@NorthernLass I had exactly the same thought re tailgating. You’d have to be pretty close to someone to get through. And then to manage it at every checkpoint.

And for something even more outlandish – albeit from nearly three decades back, making me feel horribly old…

Re the original post – what is absolutely not a surprise is that there were plenty of empty seats on the flight due to many people missing connections!

I’ve inadvertently taken drinks through security several times and they didn’t get detected.
