Forums Payment cards American Express FHR $100 Benefit Question

    Hello.
    Has anyone been able to get the $100 deducted from the accommodation cost when settling the bill? Do I need to buy stuff in order for it to kick-in? I’ll be on a one night stay & wont be at the hotel much other than to sleep & have my free breakfast 😉
    TIA

    I have never been able to get the $100 deducted from the accommodation cost. What is, or isn’t included, varies by hotel but you can never claim the cost of the night. They do sometimes let you take from the minibar, and I was at a hotel on Sunday that was happy for purchases from their gift shop to be covered.

    No, will never be deducted from the room rate. Where and when it can be spent depends on the info Amex (usually says F&B/Spa and some exclusions) and the hotel provide, you can contact them first.

    But honestly what’s the point in booking an FHR rate if you can’t use the $100 credit or the 4pm check out? Go for the cheapest direct rate. Sure you can get (maybe better) breakfast elsewhere for less.

    @Saltrams – the whole concept of FHR or Virtuoso rates that offer a $ credit (commonly described as an F&B credit) is that it cannot be used against the room rate. If you want a discount on the room rate, that can be obtained via different routes.

    OK, that’s pretty clear, thanks everyone.
    To clarify, I will be taking advantage of the 4pm checkout & it was a prime reason for going with FHR. I just won’t be at the premises between breakfast & 3pm or thereabouts.

    @JDB
    you have piqued my interest about getting better rates by other routes.

    Ask the hotel direct but don’t tell them you won’t use the the credit obviously
