FHR booking but cancelling card. How to go about this?

I’m planning on booking the portofino hotel through FHR.

Don’t ask me how but the rate is £250 a night cheaper than booking through universal.

I am going to be cancelling my card in August when my husbands 2 years comes up so we can get some more points. I also have BA Amex.

So we will have a card.. but I won’t have a MR card in my name other than the supplementary.

I’ve heard that they don’t automatically cancel the fhr bookings when you cancel the platinum card but the info is from a few years ago.

So I just wanted to check. The rate is so good that I’m not sure I could just rebook at a later date.

1) should I book it through his supplementary card now. Would that help.
Or
2) Is my BA card + supplementary going to be sufficient to keep it open?

I have once, and only once, been asked to pay a FHR invoice with a Platinum card. As with you, the rate was much cheaper through FHR, and the hotel told me that I needed to pay with Platinum for the price to be honoured. That was a Jumeirah property in Dubai, for what it’s worth.

You could take a gamble and cancel, but there is a risk that your FHR benefits, including the rate, will then expensively collapse.

I’m afraid that you probably have to choose between having your cake and eating it.

I’m not worried about that as I will have a platinum in my name as ill be a supplementary holder on his.

What I’m worried about is them automatically cancelling the booking when I cancel the card. In the portal.

They won’t know on property who the lead is and who has the supplementary so that’s all fine.
