Currently looking at the Fairmont Monte Carlo for a weekend trip next month, FH&R is giving a $150 benefit instead of the usual $100. However, a bit undecided as I wanted to limit my stays to Marriott (or Hilton if no other choice) simply because of the status given by the Platinum Amex.
Have read the Accor thread from Rob but I won’t be a big spender in their hotels ever so should I maybe stay elsewhere?
FHR gives you better benefits than Marriot gold will ever get you at another property.
If the price is right then I’d stay at the Fairmont and forget about what you’re going to do with the accor points.
The Fairmont is very well situated aswell I believe unless there are more than one?
Agreed. Whilst the Amex midtier statuses have some uses, they don’t come close to the FHR benefits. You’d need to be Marriott Plat, for example, to get the free breakfast and 4pm checkout which FHR guarantees you. Your Accor points may get orphaned but you can live with that – and the Fairmont isn’t cheap so you may hit the 2000 points for a Euro 40 voucher anyway.
Thanks both, I’ll keep an eye out for the 2000 points.
Are you guys sure Fairmont Monte Carlo is FHR? That would be interesting, in my Amex DE account it shows up as The Hotel Collection (which gives lesser benefits than FHR).
In any case, many choices in Monte Carlo and vincity. I agree with previous posters that a lowly Marriott Gold status probably should not drive your decision.
EDIT: Oh, and I’d price-compare between all three sites (i) Amex, (ii) all.accor.com, and (iii) fairmont.com.
Rates (and rules) as well as deals can vary substantially. (What is guaranteed is that the Amex rate should equal the flex rate for non-members but that’s about it.)

What are the differences between FH&R and booking via Emyr (Bon Vivant)?
Well FHR is only available to Amex Plat and centurions. Benefits depends on the property you would need to ask Emyr what he can offer and compare the two
Generally FHR has 4pm checkout guarantee and while Emyr can swing it by talking to the property there’s not always a late checkout guarantee.
