Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Executive Club Finair A350 flat bed 9600 Avios

  • 32 posts

Finair fly around 5 times a day from LHR-HEL. 3 of their flights are A321 standard “club Europe style”. However 2 flight (usually the late ones) are on the A350.

It’s a 3 hour flight and I just secured a flight for 9600 avios and £130. Lower cash/higher avios is available.

I thought this was quite a good deal considering the likes of NYC is double the flight time and 8 times the Avios.

I’ll post a review after my flight in early March.

How many avios is LHR-MAD with an Iberia flat bed operated aircraft?

13,500 avios plus £37 in CE, off=peak, regardless of seat type. But shorter flight.

The A350 is obviously significantly better than the A321 2 + 2 with empty middle seat, but I’m not sure the availability of the flat bed for a three hour flight makes much difference to most people. The aircraft itself has been reviewed several times, and the onboard service is the same regardless of aircraft type (which as always is subject to change anyway).

@AndrewT If the departure time suits I would always choose a lie flat proper business class seat if the option is available regardless of the length of the journey.

Exactly. Especially if about to connect with a long haul. We are flying J on Finnair, LHR to Hong Kong in April – and have purposefully picked the A350 flight out of LHR, so we have the choice of being able to keep stretched out for the whole journey.

The beauty of it too, is the layover is short, so we just swap to the next flight without faffing about in the shops, lounge etc. and finding a seat. Win win.

Of course it’s a significantly better seat, I said that and would also choose it every time (I did!). My point was that ‘flat bed’, as per thread subject, isn’t itself that useful on a three hour flight.

My QR intra-Gulf flight was swapped last minute from the narrow-body to a wide body with the Q Suite and my 45 minute nap was much better on a flat bed

Good points, just thought is was worth pointing out to members that may have limited avios and may want to experience the “true” business class seat.

Also don’t forget you get lounge access as well and 9600 Avios only costs around £96 to buy (using Avios boost). So £226 ( £130 cash) for business when it’s £457 to buy direct.

I used to do these sort of flights for the experience when younger and would never knock anyone who did it.

And if you need to get a laptop out to work, it’s a world apart, too. I once did LHR-LCA in CW on a 787 – an incredibly productive morning’s work was achieved.

Do you get a fully functioning IFE system on these flights?

    Yes they do.

AY also offer flat beds on some rotations to AMS and BRU. Shorter flights such as these are often better booked via QR than AY, BA or IB but the difference isn’t huge.
