Forums Payment cards American Express Fine Hotels and Resorts hotel booking

Good afternoon. I made a FHRs booking last year but have seen the rate for that hotel has dropped 15% for my dates- so I have made another booking which is fully refundable. However I can’t quite remember if the initial one I made was also fully refundable.

I’ve looked at the confirmation email and logged into my bookings but it doesn’t say anywhere about the cancellation terms.

I then went on to proceeded to cancel but there was a couple of tick boxes saying you agree that you might get charged so I was a bit hesitant to do that. Live Chat is never working and there is no published telephone number for Amex Travel.

Can anyone tell me if generally FHR bookings are usually the cancellable types? Thanks so much, sorry if it’s a silly question. Thanks in advance

Generally they are fully refundable. Just phone the normal number on the back of your card they can either do it or put you through to the right person. I can’t remember which it was last time I had an issue but I definitely just used the platinum number

FHR used to be a very staright forward and good program, but I am starting to find it is getting somewhat blurred and at times a rip off!

So FHR rates online might be prepaid and non cancellable, whereas if booked via the phone and Amex agents they are generally refundable. Equally now it can be the rates quoted online and via phone are very different even if cancellation policy is the same.

I had a situation this week where a hotel was 25% cheaper online, everything the same otherwise than via my Centurion concierge, the only different being I would miss out on my alledged complimentary at time of booing upgrade if booked online. Thus when one is paying a higher price to stay in an complimentary upgraded room when booked via the phone compared to actually booking same room online, it starts to feel like something is going wrong!

Its all to do with the fact the oniine now taps into different rates and just uses those, but it feels anything but a premium service anyomre!
