Finnair business flights to Australia but Qantas will not let me book the seats

Hello – has anyone come across this problem? I’ve booked Finnair business class to Australia and the Singapore to Australia legs are on Qantas planes. I’m an Emerald OneWorld member. When I did those legs last year I was able to book the seats on Qantas legs via the Qantas website. This time it won’t let me. I’ve contacted Qantas customer services on about 6 occasions. Each time I get a different answer but the upshot is the same: they say I cannot book seats on those flights as it’s a codeshare flight. They say I can only secure seats 24 hours before. This doesn’t seem right given my past experience. Any suggestions/ideas?

Try Malaysian Airlines or Royal Jordanian website otherwise ask Qantas if they can see a ticket number attached to those flights just in case something isn’t right
