Looking for some advise please… not an avios user as I live in the northwest! going to be flying to Manila from Manchester and will likely fly Qatar. I have a lot Amex points so considering the option of converting to avios and linking to a Qatar account. Can see from the recent points article I have enough for economy both ways or one way business if there is availability. What I can’t find is how much tax/charges would be… can anyone help please?
You can see the surcharges by doing dummy bookings on BA or QR websites, but it’s around £60 in economy and £240ish in business for the leg between MAN and DOH.
Thanks, but I don’t yet have any avios points to do a dummy booking. I’m only moving from Amex points to avios if I’m happy with the cash element. Is there anywhere that shows this?
Do you need to have any avios in your account just to price up an award flight? But I would have thought you’d want to know what availability is like anyway prior to making any decisions.

I don’t think Reward Flight Saver pricing shows on BA if you don’t have an active account.
Think if you are booking qatar from man to manila, it’s £200 in taxes one way in economy or 360 in business. Don’t know about doing ba to doha and then qatar to manila, but if you are looking to reduce, then consider flying from either Paris or Dublin. Both have considerably lower taxes.
@CJD, OP is specifically asking about QR, which doesn’t offer RFS. But it’s still unclear whether you can do any kind of search with 0 avios!
Yes, I was planning to book on Qatar with a linked account to avios and loading from Amex if I am happy with cash element.
If I can’t get an example of cash anmount against a reward flight am I correct in assuming the taxes and charges would be the same for a full cash flight dummy booking?
Thanks
What dates are you looking at? I’m sure someone will be happy to look at cost and availability for you

In the past I haven’t been able to search without avios, when I checked the ‘book an award flight’ box a message would come up saying I don’t have enough for a flight – you’d think they’d at least show you some sort of aspirational amount?! It’s been a while tho, I don’t know if that’s changed, but what has changed since earlier days is you no longer need the avios in your QR account, it can read the amount in your BA account.
I have just booked to go to Dubai with Qatar from Manchester (I am in the NW too). Far better deal than BA was offering. I saved a load of cash and used far fewer avios points with Qatar. I have almost 2 million of the buggers to use up.
I got the prices/avios split using their website rather than the app. I could see anll the options nice and clear. When i knew the details i then connected my avios and then booked,. (Only had a few thousand avios with Qatar before i connected my avios ac. (If no avios in account you can’t see the avios options).
Go for it my friend. I am now questioning my misplaced loyalty with BA when Qatar offer far better deals. Global reach not quite what BA has.. so I suppose I have to stick with it.
Global reach not quite what BA has
Surely that’s just heading west from the UK?
