Hi,
Husband was on flight today that was diverted back to Uk on way to JFK due to hydraulics failure. Flew out from Heathrow but was diverted back to Manchester. Virgin paying for hotel tonight and rebooked on 2pm flight from MAN tomorrow.
Is there any sort of compensation he is due? And what about loss of money from not using first night of hotel in NYC he had booked? Hotel booked direct with hotel.
Many thanks!
First things first. Make sure you contact the hotel. If he simply no shows for first night of a longer stay they may cancel the whole booking.
Worry about compensation after.
@hayley1983 – your husband may be entitled to the statutory £520 compensation on top of the Manchester hotel and food, but Virgin isn’t on the hook for the missed New York hotel night which in principle might be covered by travel insurance but many policies only pay for extra nights rather than unused nights.
Thanks for the info.
We’ve never had to claim compensation before. Will it automatically happen or do we need to put in a claim to Virgin?
Give it a couple of days before he applies to give VS tome to update their systems etc.
