I had a similar experience on a reward stay at Holiday Inn Whitechapel as dst87 reports above at a different Holiday Inn – was also confusingly told I couldn’t have a drink voucher as I was checking in at 11pm and the bar had closed (which didn’t really make sense given it was a 3 night stay…) and was asked if points were okay. Asked if free breakfast was a possibly and got told yes after a quick glance at the computer screen. Got an upgrade to I think the top room in that hotel (which isn’t saying much as they don’t have any suites, but it had the free kitkat, king bed and was much larger than the rooms in that category I’ve stayed in before).
I was given a single breakfast voucher with a “valid until” date of my last morning – twice the staff in the restaurant tried to take the voucher off me and I had to ask for it back explaining it was valid for all 3 nights and I needed to keep it for the next morning. As dst87 says, presumably all teething problems.
Experience at Intercontinental Strings Tokyo on reward stays was much better – both times free breakfast was offered as a choice unprompted, and our room was on the “free breakfast” list the greeter at breakfast had. Saved us an absolute fortune!
Just checked into the Indigo Manchester, wasn’t offered a choice of amenity just asked what time we wanted breakfast which is what we would have chosen anyway.

I waited 70 mins for breakfast there in July. I ended up going to M&S Café the next day.

Very efficient this morning, lots of staff and breakfast delivered quickly.
I just completed a weekend at Hotel Indigo Dundee. 2 rooms both booked with points, and both rooms selected breakfast as welcome amenity. We had free breakfast for all 4 of us for both days – they gave me vouchers at check in to show the staff at breakfast.
Kids loved the full Scottish breakfast; my diet stretched to smashed avocado & poached eggs 🙁
Currently at the IC Boston and we were offered the breakfast at check in as the Diamond benefit.
Each morning we get a bill to sign, even though they check we have breakfast included, which has 18% service added.
So I’m guessing free will actually be 18% of cost when I check out.
At the Kimpton Seafire we got a full bill for breakfast plus taxes plus gratuity each morning (which is how is manages to be $94 per day!) but no charges for it appeared on our final bill, just the meal we had on the first night and the *$80* per day “resort fee”!
We were at the IC BOS in March, just too early for free breakfast! We went out to Dunkin Donuts for breakfast sandwiches and coffee and sneaked it back up to the enormous suite we got upgraded to.
Just checked in at the IC Athens – redeemed on points.
Email yesterday confirming upgrade to a “City view” and today immediately offered breakfast – “unless I wanted the points” – as a Diamond Ambassador.
Phrase “Diamond Ambassador” got used quite a lot during check-in!

Fingers crossed for the same bill treatment tomorrow at check out. & we’ve pretty much hit the Kimpton level with just the ala carte in the IC.
We’re at the Seafire in July and I’m working out who I can call locally or fax to get my money’s worth out of the resort fee!
@DoubleA, we ended up only using the valet parking out of the resort fee benefits but that was very handy, especially as they keep the cars underground so they are nice and cool when you get them! We’re staying again in April and going to be much more organised – pool yoga here we come!
Stayed at the HI Liverpool last night after seeing Bat Out of Hell The Musical (which I booked 3 years ago). 20k points in the last IHG intern episode, cash prices starting at £196 pn. We got an upgraded room on the 8th floor with great views over the city, plus free breakfast AND 500 IHG points. Breakfast was very good, large dining room, numerous staff. Overall a really good stay.
I also stayed there on Tuesday last week for precisely the same reason (excellent show by the way). Whilst we did receive free breakfast courtesy of my Diamond membership, we received no room upgrade (even the the hotel was obviously nowhere close to full) or any additional points. Perhaps I should change my aftershave?
