Free on the day seat change BA

Looking to book Man-LHR-Bud return, does anyone know if on the day you are able to change part journey? Specifically the LHR-Man leg, its significantly cheaper to go on the last flight of the day but means waiting around in London all day, need the extra miles as part of the double tier points for silver status. It will be booked as a BA holiday if that makes any difference?

Thinking of booking cheapest and then just swapping on the day? Can i check in for the Budapest to LHR leg separately from the LHR – Man?
