Forums Other Destination advice Fun destination suggestion for mum & daughter

Any suggestions for mum & daughter week long break in UK summer holidays? Should be a “fun” destination for a nine year old. Onsite/nearby water park might be ideal, warm weather definitely a bonus, Dubai-in-August weather definitely a minus. I was going to suggest one of the Center Parcs in NL, but this isn’t really guaranteed warm weather. Or even likely warm weather. Thoughts welcome 🙂

My kids were super-active at that age. And never underestimate how much more kids enjoy spending quality time with a parent than being sent off to have canned fun.

How about a few days in surf school in Devon, Cornwall or Pembrokeshire, followed by a few days practicing your newly-lwarned skill together? Or an outdoor pursuits course (together, of course) in Snowdonia – climbing, caving, etc? A colleague did that with his primary school son a while back and it was an incredible experience. Hiking and biking in the Scottish Highlands and Islands went down well for us once, too, despite the inevitable downpours.

Personally, I’d stay well away from the prepackaged delights of Center Parcs. Your preferences and your daughter’s may, of course, vary.

Our 9-yr old loved the Suite Hotel Eden Mar in Funchal and has asked to return (flights may
be tricky in Aug.?). Various pools, kitchenette in room, bar in the evening with entertainers, massive buffet
    b/fast, etc.

Our yearly go-to trip is Nice. Extremely easy to do a multitude of short trips by train/bus/boat/Uber(! cheap and easy), into Italy (Friday is market day in Ventimiglia), Monaco, Cannes, Grasses, etc. Make-your-own-perfume course always popular.
The Nice Li Rateta beach is specifically for pre-teens, with activities on all day (paid, but v cheap: €12 per half day?).
And of course gorgeous old town and fab food!
