Travelling to Mexico from Gatwick – Currently booked in Economy but debating upgrading to Club World (only if it is the new suites) – Can anyone tell me how I can find out whether the aircraft will have the new CW or not? Apologies, new to this!

    Hi,

The Gatwick 777s are all old club world, so unless you get an aircraft swapped in from Heathrow (which is not impossible) then it won’t be club suites. You should be able to do a free search on Expertflyer for the seat map – if it’s 4 across then it is club suites. Most likely it will be old club world though.

Even if it is old style still miles better than economy! That’s a long flight in back of plane. Even if you did book CS you can’t guarantee there won’t be an equipment swap. If you have points and there’s availability upgrade to club and don’t sweat the seat.

What kind of upgrade are you looking at, e.g. using avios you can only upgrade by one cabin?

Good point Anna ! Funny I assumed it was avois booking being HFP never occurred to me someone would pay for flights. 😂

Almost certainly not new suites on Mexico

Not to be too harsh on a new poster, but this has been asked a few times now. Do look at the pinned article on how to search, as searching ‘Gatwick’ and ‘seat’ gives the answer a few times on just the first page from
    Google.

I will add however that the old Club World seat, unlike the new Club Suite, has better and worse seats. The last 3 flights I’ve done Club World from/to Gatwick in the last couple of months all had window seats already taken by the time I booked. Personally for the old seat I’d only find it worth it (even with avios) on a night flight and I would probably check there is a decent seat left before I even booked. You can check seats/configuration easily by doing a dummy booking and selecting seats (but obviously don’t go through to pay!)

I think some people get a bit snobby about the old club world seat. On my last trip I went outbound club world and inbound club suite. Club suite has a couple of major advantages ie direct aisle access especially when sleeping and a much bigger TV plus it’s definitely more private. However club world can be great for couples or families with the two centre seats and I find it slightly more comfortable for sleeping than club suite. Club World is still way way better than PE or economy and is also better than the older Virgin A330 upper class.

Go through the booking process as if it was a cash ticket, go all the way through to checkout as a guest, fill in a load of bogus info on the passenger details page until you get to the seat selection, and then you’ll be able to see the exact seat map for the flight.

Did this myself for a flight back from the states to Gatwick on a 777 and got the new club suites.
