Forums Payment cards American Express Getting two platinum cards

  • 13 posts

I already have one platinum and the wife has the BAPP, and both are secondary cardholders.

With the new platinum bonus, I’m considering referring my wife for a plat for the 80,000 bonus (plus 18,000 referral). Effectively buying 98k avios for £625 which seems like a good deal, plus the £300 dining credit as a bonus.

Will Amex look at this unfavourably? Having two platinums (plus supps) and a BAPP within the household.

Don’t see any issues with that. The most important considerations are credit limit and individual income.

£600 dining credit and £100 harvey nicks if you hold it pass 1 jan.

@Fester — did you end up pulling the trigger on this one? Was considering something similar before I stumbled upon a funny inconsistency in eligibility terms:

if you go direct (75k MR points offer), it says:
If you have held a personal Membership Rewards enrolled American Express Card within the previous 24 months, you will be entitled to all other Card benefits, excluding the welcome offer.

if you go through a referral, it says:
You will not be eligible for any welcome bonus offer if you hold or have held any personal American Express Cards in the past 24 months.

Wondering if this is deliberate or some sort of error — can anyone help figure out?

No I’ve not pulled the trigger yet. Thanks for pointing out the T&Cs for this one. In that case she’d be ineligible as she has the BAPP card.

Have just double checked the referral t&cs on the app and it says:

“I understand my friend will not be eligible for any welcome bonus offer if they hold or have held any personal Membership Rewards-enrolled American Express Card in the past 24 months.”

Aye, seen that as well. When you click through the referral link on the receiving end though, it says any amex card. Perhaps worth clarifying with them
