We are considering going Goa mid October
3 adults 2 children (6&9)
Were not sure if we should stay north or south, we do plan to do some excursions, again I don’t know what ye apart from going to help out in an orphanage for a day.Whats your budget/what hotel type are you looking at, how are you getting around and do you plan to be mostly on beaches/at the hotel or being out every day?
If its primarily beaches and resorts you want, south goa beaches are better. The resorts have their own beaches, theyre much quieter and the beaches are nicer. But most south goa resorts arent really near anything (including walking distance to shops in many places) and it will take anything from 45 mins upwards by car to get to any of the typical touristy places
North goa is much busier The beaches are usually busy and are lined with bars and water activity sellers pretty much from aguada to baga, anjuna is a bit less busy. North has massively more nearby shops and restaurants, is closer to tourist stuff and has a larger spread of hotels.
Also when considering airport, GOX is about as far north in goa as you can get, while GOI is between north and south goa and much closer for south goa.
Depending how long youre going for, maybe split the stay and do both?
The Taj in the south has a beautiful beach and large grounds. Depending upon how well your kids swim, the beach there is safe. But if that’s too rough, they have large grounds and the pool is quite shallow. We’ve seen lots of families there.
There are beach sharks and restaurants within walking distance along the beach. You can get a tuk tuk into the local ‘town’ but I would not bother. If you want shops, fly out to BOM and take an internal flight to stay in Mumbai a couple of days.
The new JdV by Hyatt hotel had a superb deal on points, not sure if still available. But away from beach though.
Holiday inn resort is also good, as it’s slightly upscale in Asia compared to UK.Thanks all, we are flying in to Gox, and going for 7 nights.
Wife and kids will stay an extra 3 nights, I did float the idea of going to Mumbai but she isn’t too keenI far prefer the South, much more family/couples orientated. The North is just too busy /party place. GOX however is double the distance compared to GOI.
Radisson Blu in Cavelossim is decently priced. Cavelossim has a good variety of shops, restaurants, beach shacks etc although the shacks may not be up mid OCT. You can also do boat trips up the river SAL which is a nice way to spend a day
