Forums Other Flight changes and cancellations help Has Jetline Travel gone bust? / Norwegian Cruise Line scam?

Hoping to get some advice for my mum.

She booked a trip last November through Jetline Travel Ltd departing on 28March2025 (ie just over 3 weeks time) flying from LHR to New Orleans, 2 nights hotel then a 7 night cruise on Norwegian Cruise Line followed by a train trip to Memphis and 2 nights hotel plus tour of Graceland then another train to Chicago followed by 2 nights hotel and then flight home from Chicago to LHR. Flights on BA metal but AA flight numbers. Total cost in excess of £3.5k.

Paid full balance 6 weeks ago.

This afternoon had a phone call from Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) informing her that Jetline had gone into administration and had only paid NCL £100 and therefore my mum has 48hours from this afternoon to decide whether she wants to pay £965.38 to NCL to secure the cruise part of the trip. Phone number to call back looks like a genuine NCL number 0333 241 2319.

Tried phoning Jetline on their booking line 0800 082 2170 at 8:30pm as their office hours are apparently 8am to 9pm but get no answer.

Have no idea if the rest of the elements of the trip are paid for or if it’s a scam to get an extra £965 from my mum?

Tried phoning ATOL as mum has an ATOL certificate and they knew nothing about Jetline going into administration.

Will try callining Jetline again in the morning but if they have gone bust can my mum claim on travel imsurance or should she try a s75 claim through the credit card.

Sadly seems true. There are several stories online about other people in the same situation:

Thanks. I suspected it may be true when I got no answer to the bookings line. Now need to try get my mum’s money back. Will try calling her insurance company and notify the credit card company. My concern with the credit card is that she paid Jetline and not the cruise company, hotels or airline directly.

I think that shouldn’t be a problem as it’s the TA that hasn’t delivered the service. Where you run into issues is if the supplier fails and then the credit card doesn’t want to help you as you paid the TA, not the supplier

Need to check that AA has issued the tickets – you need a ticket number beginning 001- not just the 6 digit booking ref

Thanks! Re a s75 claim it’s slightly complicated as my mum didn’t have a high enough credit limit so she only paid £100 on her credit card and I paid the balance on mine and she did a bank transfer to me. Not sure if that means I can get my money back. I am not travelling.

I will try travel insurance first.

@SamG It appears that the flights have been ticketed. I have a number beginning 001. Does that mean that it’s just the cruise portion of the trip that has been unpaid. Or is it possible that the flights will be cancelled in due course too?

Paying even £1 is enough to trigger S75, that won’t be a problem. I’d aim to talk to her CC ASAP to know her options.

Obviously double check with AA but this usually means they paid the airline when the tickets were issued so there will be no problem using them

@AJA mentions the flights are actually on BA metal, so is it worth speaking with BA to make sure his mum is properly ticketed and would definitely be allowed to board?

    @AJA
, I am so sorry for your mum, she must have been really looking forward to this trip!

    Now on the ATOL page
    Failure of Jetline Travel Ltd
    ATOL No: 6153
    Date of failure: 06.03.2025
Jetline Travel Ltd ATOL 6153 has ceased trading as an ATOL holder on 6th March 2025.

    https://www.atol.org/atol-failures/jetline-travel-ltd-atol-6153/

It says that the flights may still be valid and passengers should check with the airline directly but that all local arrangements may need to be paid again.

But there is this bolded paragraph:
Please note that if you choose to travel and use your valid flight, you are not protected under The Package Travel and Linked Travel Arrangements Regulations 2018 as your package travel provider has ceased to trade. You will therefore be responsible for any risks arising from each individual element of your trip which would have previously been protected

My mum doesn’t want to travel under those conditions. She just wants her money back.

Understandable in many ways, but realistically, are there many risks at this point?

Even assuming the flights are paid (and we’re not certain that’s happened or that they won’t be cancelled in the meantime) there’s still 6 nights hotel to pay again plus train tickets between cities and near enough an extra £1k to pay just to the cruise company. On top of trying to get back what’s already been paid and we have no idea what that amounts to. Seems simpler at this point to just not go. That’s definitely the view of my mum’s brother who was travelling with her. That means my mum would have to go on her own and she doesn’t want to do that.
