-
I am 15 points short this year for an upgrade to Bronze status. I have 10 days left and i also have a companion voucher that needs to be used shortly. I am looking at a trip to Nice for a couple of days next week, but wanted to part pay with Avios, does that impact the tier points that i would earn (i cant get clarity on that anywhere)? Appreciate it will lose the companion voucher (terrible planning on my front) but wanted to at least move up a tier for the year ahead.
Or is there a far simpler way of doing it (dont really want to spend more than £200 if i can help it as i dont see huge value in Bronze status tbh)?
Part pay with avios does not affect TP earnings.
Reducing the cash amount with avios (rather than booking an award) doesn’t affect TPs. However, I don’t know if you are offered this option on all fare types. Are you in economy? I only ask as some economy fares only earn 5 TPs.
Perfect, thank you. I can use the part payment option so will just check the ticket type gets me enough tier points. I think it does but better safe than sorry.
Just to be super expressly clear so you don’t get caught out.
You want to PAY and use Avios.Pay with Avios and Cash will not earn you TPs. It’s a very easy mistake to make and one that’s caught out many over the years.
Once you’ve booked you can look in MMB and it should show you your projected TPs. If it doesn’t or says “this flight is not eligible for tier point earnings/ collection” then you can cancel it under the 24 HR rule and rebook making sure it’s booked the correct way.
Apart from the TPs, Antibes and Juan Les Pins are great places for dinner.
Are you sure you will get enough value out of Bronze to justify spending the £200?
Just clarify what you mean by 10 days left – until what? TP collection years run until the 8th of a month (at the moment). If you are saying you have 10 days until the end of your membership year, then you have missed the boat as your TP collection year would have ended on 8 Jan.
You can check which booking class codes earn what TPs here: https://www.britishairways.com/travel/flight-calculator/public/en_gb
When looking at flights on ba.com, click on the highlighted Flight Details alongside each option to show the selling class.
