That’s really helpful as I wondered why I couldn’t find the return leg on BA! I have to go in school holidays due to working in a school so have the same problem! It looks like I will have to try to get the SJO-MAD on Iberia via the call centre. That’s a good idea re open jaw via Cancun, I’ll also look at that. Thanks

I keep getting this message when I am searching for SJO-MAD flights:
British Airways and its partners do not fly this route. Please consider alternative destinations or contact your executive club service centreI know that they do fly this route as Iberia do, I am looking on the Executive Club page, redeem with Avios. Any ideas? Thank you
When do you want to fly? You may look outside the range in which flights have been loaded.

I have just spoken to BA who have informed me that they are not flying out of Costa Rica April 2024 and that Iberia has not released flights either. Also to use the 241 voucher the airline must be the same for both legs! Back to the drawing board now for me!
The BA assistant recommended booking Cancun – London just using points and not the 241 voucher, flying economy and then if Iberia did release flights could then add them to the 241 booking. Any advice? Thanks

That may actually make sense. CUN-LON is cheaper via Avios than cash. In case you are actually flying that leg, you could consider premium economy.
However, if you want to save the cancellation fee, you could wait until Iberia actually loads flights (assuming that economy redemptions CUN-LON will be available for longer, check with SeatSpy).
I was also looking at returning from Mexico City – lots of redemption availability from there. However noted that BA fly Mexico City-Heathrow, not Gatwick, which is the outbound airport to SJO. Is that a problem with companion vouchers, or would BA just see it as London?

Ok, update ha! I spoke to Iberia UK helpline and they said that Iberia should be operating flights for April 2024 but they would not be released until April 2023 is finished so I’ll sit tight and wait!

I meant cancelling the CUN-LON leg when SJO-MAD(-LON) becomes available – it’ll cost you $55 per person.

Brilliant. Exactly the same itinerary I wanted to book. Im from Colombia so enjoy it especially Medellin for city life, coffee region Pereira/Armenia and unmatched Caribbean sea in San Andres and the remote Providencia. I would suggest spend as little time as possible in BOG, not crime wise just traffic, cold and not a lot to do.

Not sure where the 1am comes from as these aren’t BA flights but partner flights
I’m going to speculate but IB might be planning on a mixed schedule for the off peak Apr May time with some flights offering J and the others having premium economy as the highest cabin

If your outbound was booked with 241 on biz? Can you then return in Eco?
Yes you can mix cabins on award bookings.
