Am flying out to Tokyo for a trip onwards to visit friends in the Philippines and Australia (I *think* this is a reasonable itinerary and am excited to visit Hakone in Japan too).
I’m trying to return from that side of the world back to London basically anytime from April-June, but the only availability I can find home is from Dubai, which is ok – but ineligible under the rules of open jaw, as the distance from Tokyo to Dubai is longer than the flights.
Having tried China to find no availability in J for 2, I’m throwing it out to the room – does anyone have any suggestions?
You tried seatspy trial to find availability? And consider leaving from the other UK regional airports as 241 opens up extra availability. Open jaw will have to called into BA.
YVR would also be a valid open jaw. Quite the trek from Australia, although I think both QF and AC have nonstops to SYD.
Unfortunately BA don’t fly to NRT any more as that opened up a lot of the west coast.

Thank you, leaving LHR is fine, it’s the return I’m struggling with. Flights into London from major hubs are hard to come by!
Are you sure you cant see any availability from China back to LHR? I can see quite a lot of availability for 2 pax from both Shanghai and Beijing between April and June

Thanks for the nudge on this, you’re right actually – I can see Shanghai too. The only issue is I think we’d need the faff of applying and waiting for £180 visas each simply to fly out of Shanghai – plus the single direct flight and lack of layover worries me – a good night’s rest halfway along feels safer. But maybe I’m being too picky and we should just do a direct flight from Shanghai!
Last time I went via Shanghai I took advantage of visa free 48 hour stop over. No 180 bill. I got a hotel near the Bund , nice break from NZ to Madrid to London
Update – I found availability from Singapore and a very patient agent booked an open jaw. Trip in J to Tokyo and home from Singapore “worth” cost just £1.5k plus 162k Avios, cash price over £13k. Very happy with that. Thanks all here & thanks HfP for the years of built up wisdom 🙌

Future ref. 144 hour Shanghai visa is completely free. so for example SYD-stopover PVG-LHR is absolutely fine.
