Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club High fees for BA Holiday flight upgrade

  • 14 posts

I got a notification from SeatSpy that Club Europe seats were available for the outbound leg of my BA holiday to Italy in September. When I rang BA (and got through in under 5 minutes!) I was told the additional cash fees per person one way was £90! Plus the 7500 Avios. This seemed extremely poor value as the current cash price for the same flight in club is only £150 more for a return than economy i.e. cheaper! Has anyone else experienced this or know the reason why? There was no option to use more avios and less cash either. Safe to say I opted not to take up their offer.

There have been a few reports recently of surcharges being miscalculated – usually asking for it to be checked with a supervisor or HUACA gets it sorted.

You aren’t comparing the same thing.

A BA holiday booked flight is not the same as a flight only booking and different rules and policies apply.

The costs aren’t directly comparable as you’ll be paying a change fee to your existing holiday booking that obviously doesn’t apply to a new one. Plus there’s the additional APD to be collected.

And RFS pricing only applies to flight only.

Then there are the mysteries of how a BA holiday is priced as a package as against flight only.

I always thought you could UUA on a BA holiday booking and it was the same process as UUA on a cash flight?

Yes you can but it’s a fixed cost and avios. So in this case £90 and 7.5k avios.

But you can’t (unlike when making a reward booking) select more avios and pay less cash.
