Forums Hotel loyalty schemes Hilton Honors Hilton Garden Inn Snowdonia – any feedback?

  • Rui N. 952 posts

On the old chat threads this hotel came quite often, so it might be a good idea to start a topic here and getting all that fantastic info in one place.

I’m thinking on going sometime this summer.
Any tips about the hotel and what to do around it?
Any family-specific tips (going with an ~18 month old) about the hotel itself (is the standard room big enough for a travel cot?) or Snowdonia itself?

@Rob/@Rhys, should be in here on the Hilton sub-forum? Happy for you to move it, if you think the latter is the better option.

Go down to Betwys and eat at Y Stablau.

+1 for Stabelau (no reservations, queue to get in)

Also enjoyed dinner at Tal-Y-Cafn and The Manor (suggest making reservations).

Y Bedol north up the road one way (walkable),
The Old Ship south down the road the other (not really walkable)
will both do a very decent pub-food job for you.

As a public service please try the Prince’s Arms a little south of there as we’re going back in a month or so and wonder what it’s like (looks quite old worldy but could be charming?)
At the trashier end of the scale…
Tir a Mor chippie in Llanrwst is excellent
Johnny Dough’s pizza in Conwy is shite.

    How very dare you.
We enjoyed Johnny Dough after our visit to the castle.

    What did you dislike?

Service was abysmal; and I’m not expecting much service at all from a casual pizza joint, so annoying me took some effort!

Thanks a lot Steve. Glad someone can find something on the daily threads!

I thought I did a more detailed review but Google search didn’t find it! Overall it’s a nice modern hotel and the surf school right outside adds a bit of “character” as otherwise it’s in the middle of nowhere, not in a scenic sense!

To add to the above there is a zip lining centre not too far (Zip World Fforest) and HGI is very close (driving) to Betwys-y-Coed which is nice little town to walk around. Conwy Castle if you head North from HGI also not too far.

We stayed there back in September. It sits next to the only artificial surfing lake in Europe, which is fun to watch, and I am sure kids will like it. Rooms were big enough, lots of restaurants within 10 miles, although COVID was restricting some of them.

The Hilton itself was fine, but they had staffing issues as they were trying to cater for a large wedding reception. Restaurant dinner service for other guests was incredibly slow. They also seemed to have some staff issues in the kitchen. Its one of those open kitchens that you can see from the dining tables. One chef seemed not to be aware of hygiene as he was loading up plates of food with his bare hands – handfuls of chips, squishing down the burger buns etc.

We complained at checkout, and they kindly comped us the offending dinner, but I would think twice about dining there.
