So coming back from Maldives next year, connecting via Emirates, so spend 3 nights in Dubai. 6th Feb night to 9th Feb morning.
Never been to Dubai before, it will be a family trip, couple + 2 year child.
I guess we probably not into beach that much since coming back from Maldives?
Just realised there are so many / too many hotel options in Dubai. Let’s say for Hilton, which one would the Hfper would recommend? I noticed they have more options recently as they acquired the SLH?
Conrad is very well located if you wanted to sightsee and has a metro stop outside.
The 3 hotels co-located at Al Habtoor City are poorly regarded.
The only acceptable beach Hilton in my view is the Waldorf Palm. The options on Jumeirah Beach are down the public end of the JBR Beach Walk stretch. And the Hilton on the Palm requires one to cross a public boardwalk onto West Beach – where the constant noise from nearby influencer spot Five ruins any serenity.
Probably have to give a little clue in terms of budget? Points or cash or doesn’t matter? Are you Diamond or gold?
I really like WA DIFC, a classy hotel with amazing hard product.
Hilton the Palm is a nice new property nothing special but lots of choice for food etc along west beach, especially if you don’t care about the beach as it’s not the best. (I don’t see the issue walking across the footpath it’s literally a few metres wide and I don’t recall noise from five palm and I arrived on the day of the pool party and stayed for 5 nights). Nice enough lounge. It also has a nice Trader Vics if you like that.
Conrad is really well liked but a little older
Doubletree Jumierah is all suites
Hi
Thanks, I am gold. I checked the price, the WA is less than £250 per night, so in this case, we would probably pay cash.
I noticed they added a Al Seef heritage hotel and a V Hotel, quite tempting to give them a try
Depends what you want to do, how much you want to spend and how you plan to get around. Conrad is next to a metro stop and reasonably well located for the burj/dubai mall, frame, bujuman center, al seef, souks. A cheaper option would be the canopy al seef (dont bother with the curio, its fine for a 1 night novelty but its just not worth the hassle of having to go thru the fake shopping mall all the time, plus the balcony is unusable as its covered with bird crap).
Imo the palm is just a hassle unless you dont plan on leaving the palm, as it takes ages to get anywhere that isnt the palm. I wasnt really a fan of JBR either, it was like a higher end blackpool lol.
One thing about WA Palm you might get a room facing the bins so book a category you would actually be happy with, I’d read Robs two reviews but they are 4/5 years old now.
It’s a very long drive on/off the palm so if you have plans to visit the rest of the city Conrad or WA DIFC are better choices. Hilton often do 3 for 2 via its luxury hotel programme or FHR so worth asking Emyr.
+1 for WA DIFC lots of restaurants in DIFC and near the Dubai mall/fountains. Happy to help with Hilton impresario quotes too – WA DIFC has 4f3.
If paying cash for the WA, worth looking at a FHR or Impresario rate.
Would highly recommend the Conrad Dubai. Stayed last year and although the rooms aren’t the newest, we were extremely well looked after.
Hilton Diamond and they upgraded us to the suite as well as allowing my mum (who was staying in another hotel) to access the exec. lounge with us.
Location wise it’s perfect for getting out and about. Metro stop right outside and Uber waits are couple of mins.
I only stayed at the Conrad on a day use rate; but I thought my one sitting at the club lounge for afternoon tea was really weak. Very small selection of cakes, no savoury items at all IIRC.
It has its strong points but the afternoon lounge service is not one of them.
Another vote for the Conrad here – stayed 3 nights earlier this year and well looked after, no quibble early and late check out, 3-4 level upgrade to a big suite. Location is good for the metro, plenty of taxis close by and the quirky little bar/restaurant on the ground floor was a decent place for a drink
2 nights in the Curio Al Seef as well – a little out of the way but made a pleasant change from the hustle of Dubai, a nice promenade type walk along the river with plenty of places to eat and drink, the souk itself was a mix of tacky tourist bits with a few (seemingly) authentic stalls and shops – could easily spend half a day or so exploring this but that is about it
Stayed at WA Palm Jumeirah around 6 times over the last few years, mostly with Emyr booking Impressario rates and deals for me. As Hilton Gold, they treat you well, and booking a Pearl Club King for us usually gets us upgraded to a suite for 5/6 night stays too.
Great pool service, or beach if you fancy, but it’s a 20 min drive to get off the Palm, plus the distance to destination. Whilst relatively inexpensive, factor the time in (both ways).
This hotel has limited F&B options (IMHO), however the Anantara is next door with several restaurants on The Entertainer to save some cash, and in the last year or so has seen significantly improved delivery options from Talabat, Deliveroo etc.
Bear in mind if planning some relaxing room-based drinks (folk with younger, tired kids may relate), it’s very, very easy to have that delivered in Dubai now too, and often at prices that embarrass those of us living under Minimum Alcohol Pricing north of the border.
Have stayed at Hilton Dubai the Walk a few years ago too, an older hotel with great staff then (pre-pandemic), and it’s a great location, but pool is shaded, and it’s noisy and traffic can be problematic at times too.
Whatever you do, enjoy your stopover though !
