Forums Other Airport lounges Hong Kong – Taipei – which airline gets us best lounge access

    Hi all

We are a couple travelling economy Hong Kong – Taipei return. We have a choice of airline (China Airlines, Cathay Pacific) at same price point so seems to make sense to pick by lounge access.

Sky team: both elite plus (1xITA club premium, 1xKLM gold)
One world: one of us sapphire (Royal Jordanian gold sparrow), other no status

Looks like with Sky Team we’d both have access to Plaza Premium at Hong Kong. Much less clear if any access with one world (for either of us – with status and guest). However would love to try the Cathay/Quantas lounges, and on the return are then going on to LHR though separate booking (BA business) so a moot point (but slight misguided view could very slightly help if had issues with delays retuning HK missing following separate BA flight).

Grateful for hive’s view on who to go with.

Oneworld sapphire will get you into all the CX business lounges and the QF lounge which are all good

I know nothing about skyteam, but I wouldn’t choose to go to a plaza premium over a CX lounge, although I haven’t been to a PP at HKG for many years

Cheers John – only one of us has sapphire, is there guest access?

CX lounge in Taipei is outstanding. Classy environment and decent food and drink. Noodles and a martini are my go-to. There’s heaps written about the HKG lounges here and elsewhere.

Yes you get a guest with status.

Yes you get a guest with status.

I always figure if a lounge doesn’t offer me something special, I may as well be in Costa.
