Just a heads up.
As you may know, Hotels.com/Expedia will be following their US loyalty scheme in the UK later this year….no more stamps, instead an equivalent monetary value.
I have already been swapped over, my account showing a substantial amount of Dollars, as apposed to ‘free nights ‘.
However, to make a booking and use these Dollars, it is important that you login to the US site, not UK. And you may have to use a VPN.
Not realising this while trying to make a reward booking, I had to go onto their chat line for support…this was followed up by a phone call from their Global support team, who reiterated the above….hope this helps somebody with Dollars in their account over here.
Thanks for this update. What happens to the stamps that are not yet a free night because we haven’t collected 10? Do they give the average of that into the pot also?
As well as my free nights, they also converted the 7/10 stamps into Dollars based on the average amount.
For anyone unaware of the Hotels.com changes HfP’s article may be useful… https://www.headforpoints.com/2023/03/29/hotels-com-rewards-gutted-one-key/
I am just hoping they dont change my account before the end of this month as I have my 10th stamp valued at £500 to collect, which will be worth £50 rather than a fiver if the account changes before my stay (Well that’s my understanding of it).
However, to make a booking and use these Dollars, it is important that you login to the US site, not UK.
Is that just temporary do you think? I’m thinking about dropping my loyalty to loyalty schemes but not sure if I want all the faff of what you’ve been asked to do.
I was staying in a remote village and unable to load a booking in my hotels.com app due to a patchy wifi and no mobile signal – so I cleared the app storage to see if it would work. It wouldn’t let me sign back in.
(I had paid through hotels.com but the owner got confused and thought I hadn’t, so I wanted to show him the proof – somehow the email confirmation didn’t say anything, but since the app didn’t load he said would just trust me and check when he went home later.)
When I got back to a place with normal signal the app still wouldn’t let me sign in, so I deleted it and reinstalled, and then it said it would force me to join One Key. However, using the website still works as normal. Fortunately, I have now reached 10 nights so I will redeem the last night and then close the account.
