P2 has a VACC voucher which she wishes to use to upgrade a flight she plans to purchase on points to Vegas for next year. Would be in premium out and J back.
Is it simple enough to say that the cost in points would be:
Outbound: 30k (cost of economy classic)
Inbound: 55k (cost of premium)
Or do we need to factor in a 1.5x uplift on the premium cost because of being a red member?
ie. if it were a 241, I know the cost would be:
Outbound: 27.5k (premium)
Inbound: 67.5*15 = 101.25 (UC)
You are correct – no extra points required for an upgrade with no status, so it’s a total of 85k points, plus the extra TFCs of course.
Actually its less points than that as you have quoted return
Depending on peak/offpeak
Just look online for econ- out premium back – which should be 42.5k points off peak
also check the availability and fees for the prem out and UC back
or use 55k points for prem both ways and upgrade to UC ?
She will pay the points for the former and the fees for the latter when she calls up to use the voucher Status doesnt matter for upgrades
