I want to go out to South America from Madrid with Iberia then return direct to London with BA using 2-4-1 voucher.
Is this allowed please?
Yes – there is quite a bit of info about this kind of routing in the various 241 threads.
Hi I did this exact routing using a 241.
I called the BA number to do it but be warned, the first agent I called said it couldn’t be done so hung up and called again.

I’m now off to read it as I want to do similar
IB MAD-PTY
BA MEX-LHR
Did not know it could be done, I assume it will be classed as two one ways but using only the one 2-4-1 vouhcer for both?

Nope, if you book them together it is a single trip. If you first book MAD-PTY then separately book MEX-LHR you will have two separate booking and can call BA o put them together in order to get the Avios back for the return.

So there’s no issue in starting in MAD but ending in LHR?
There’s no issue with that itinerary. When you reclaim the 50% avios however, you remain with 2 separate PNRs.

Not at all. I am doing MAD-MEX MEX-MAD-LHR in a few weeks myself. Booked over the phone with BA directly in one go (but agent confirmed I could have booked one leg online, then the return and call to put them into one and get half of the return avios back).

But your MEX itinerary is with IB. OP wants to do one IB and return BA.
Do note though two PNRs mean two cancellation fees per person. Something to keep in mind.
I thought it had to be the same airline to use the 241 companion voucher?
Related to this point, does anyone know when booking a mixed Iberia outbound/BA return using 1x voucher if a specific Avios/Taxes combination needs to be select on the BA return for it to be recognised as part of the same voucher booking (and 50% Avios refunded after booking the return)? Iberia seems to provide the optimal combination as the first automatic option, whereas I tend to select the traditional 3rd option on BA and avoid the high avios/low taxes which comes up automatically

You can use the Amex241 on BA IB and EI, however if you mix the carriers you can be charged an multi carrier rates, hence why for your Costa Rica trip we all suggested LHR-MAD then the separate MAD-SJO-MAD-LHR on IB.
I would suggest the same here that the OP sticks to one carrier, or at least updates on how they do (to my mind IB and BA should under the JSA be the same carrier as that’s effectively what we see on LHR-MAD-LHR no dual carrier surcharge).
I noticed a small difference in price/AVIOS if a return was SOMEWHERE-MAD with IB and then MAD-LHR with BA vs. MAD-LHR with IB. However since there is a lot of IB flights it is not much of an issue (different if you are going to MAN or other places in UK). But it can be done (mixing IB/BA on same booking).
