How much in advance can you choose seats on an Avios Business class booking on Iberia?
It’s a whole can of worms – there are a couple of threads already on this!
Well, I went through those posts and followed all the suggestions. Iberia is still not showing me a ‘Select a seat’ option. On BA, it’s showing me that link but when I choose that, it’s saying that seats can only be booked at Check-in.
Tried it on rj.com as well and it says ‘seat map not available for this flight’.
The booking is for next year though… so should I expect seat reservation to start a bit later?Yes it’s not straight away, mine appeared at around about 10 months out for a trip next May IIRC

You have mentioned this Iberia seat booking issue a few times – are you sure there isn’t something wonky in your booking? We always have a number of Iberia bookings on the go – currently nine with a mix of domestic, short haul and long haul (all bar one made via BA) and while the seat maps do only appear at random times as noted above, there seems to be no issue selecting seats in the Iberia app which has the added benefit that one gets notified of changes that BA doesn’t send.
It’s so amazing to choose seat on J without having to pay. Like people mentioned, you can do it 10months or so out. If it’s on expert flyer then it’ll be on IB.
@JDB, I don’t know! I can select seats, but then the IB system wants payment even though my BAEC number is on the booking.
It has occurred to me that as they are the cheapest HBO fare, Silver seat selection may not apply? Off the top of my head I can’t recall what happens on BA as I’ve never flown HBO with them.
Never travelled HBO with BA, wow – you need to travel light(er) 🙂. So much time saved not waiting for bags, I can now comfortably manage a week with a fully stuffed BA cabin bag and back pack.
Status seat selection on BA is exactly the same for HBO as any other ticket or cabin.
I meant I’ve never booked a HBO fare, I travel with just hand baggage all the time! I can do 7-10 days on the BA maximum-sized wheely case, I’ll have you know 😂
But good to know about the seat selection, I guess that’s not causing the IB issue then 🤷♀️

I think Silver should allow booking on all fares, save that you can’t book XL seats, a concept which is drawn rather more widely, including on short haul, than the BA Silver exclusion which just applies to exit row seats on long haul, plus some seats blocked to sub-gold, even with payment.

Totally agree, Anna. Young one and I doing 6 days Seattle/Portland in Oct. OH nearly went catatonic when I explained it
would just be the BA wheely + Mickey Mouse backpack for us!I meant I’ve never booked a HBO fare, I travel with just hand baggage all the time! I can do 7-10 days on the BA maximum-sized wheely case, I’ll have you know 😂

Love it! And my debonair Brazilian OH would very much agree with you, @JDB!
Incidentally, I still have to wax lyrical about the Beijing Regent: so very glad you
“persuaded” me, it was absolutely fabulous. And within the first 2 minutes while still in
the lobby I understood what you meant by the bonkers concierge!@NorthernLass @JDB – having booked many HBO on BA and can confirm free seat selection is available for Silver. Out of interest, why book a non-HBO fare when travelling with just hand luggage? Room for presents on the return?
As for Iberia, I’ve had it a number of times the app wanting payment. This is both for economy short haul and PE long haul previously. I’ve just closed down the app and it remembers the seat selection. Makes me nervous each time it happens, but the selections have held.
