    Just flew LHR-TLV.

No AVOD, screen the size of a postage stamp.

    Wtf?

    No IFE?!

That means you had no alternative but to be all alone with your thoughts.

    It must have been awful.

Yes, never understand the fuss about onboard IFE as my personal IFE (iPad or book) is vastly superior in terms of screen quality, audio and content than that provided by any airline in any class. I can’t remember when I last used the airline IFE save occasionally for the map.

@JDB, I seem to find myself agreeing with an alarming number of your posts.

I absolutely never use IFE. I have enough time at home to watch TV. Why would I want to do it on a flight?

I would personally pay a significant premium for an IFE-free flight where I didn’t see other passengers’ flickering screens, where no flight attendant ever asked my to lower my window blind so that other passengers can see their screens properly, and where my seat design wasn’t constrained by an obsessive need to allow me to watch moving pictures during take-off and landing.

I load up my iPad and never turn on the IFE unless it’s to know how long is left to fly

BA has 3 unrefurbished 777s flying and you had the misfortune of flying one. I haven’t flown one for quite a few years and the IFE and cabin was dodgy then so must be a state by now ! No power in Y either so tricky providing your own.

They are refurbishing these with CS and going 10 across down the back but they’re taking their time to get to the last few. The late flight to Newark and day flight back is another route that often sees them

Well, for me it was on this occaision – I was away with my other half for a trip away without the kids, and one of the things we were looking forward to doing is sitting next to each other in the middle CW seats and watching a film together.

I appreciate it may not have the same importance for everyone (including myself if travelling alone). At the same time, quality IFE in terms of both screen and content is a heavily-promoted part of the CW service and in this instance it was way below my even modest expectations, let alone what other carriers provide.

    Cheers for the colour!

Hi, @SamG ! Is there any way of knowing this? I’m currently booked on EWR-LHR day flight in April, but with an option to choose. And our son def. needs the entertainment in a day flight!!

Based on my experience (2x) they updated the config 1-2 weeks in advance. By April though these aircraft may all be gone (hopefully!)

Keep an eye on the seatmap – this is the config in question, the J cabin is non-CS, PE cabin smaller and bigger econ. JFK has a flight at the same time and is consistently a new config bird

Both times I ended up changing flights so haven’t had the “pleasure” myself
