Forums Hotel loyalty schemes IHG One Rewards IHG Diamond – how much longer…?

I’d say yes, the HIX format in the UK is the worst I’ve stayed in. I spent weeks in one in Leeds and the free kit kat did not outweigh the ridiculous cost cutting by having one door perform the function of two – The bathroom and toilet – by use of a double hinge.

Are we trying to set a new record for the number of posts totally unrelated to the thread title? (and yes I know this is another one)

Suffered a US HIX breakfast this morning, complete with paper plates and plastic cutlery. Pretty dire.

Well, it has sort of been related to the thread. The thread started with apparent panic from some that their ever so elevated IHG status might be downgraded. Others pointed out how, once free from the shackles of these schemes you can now explore a wider universe and experience better!

What’s funny is that within the huge number of comments under the BA TP article, there are a great many saying they finally feel liberated not chasing BA status. How come this doesn’t apply to hotel status?

Also we all seem to have been downgraded now so the thread title is a bit redundant!

I think the difference is possibly that it’s easier to chop and change with hotel bookings. With airline travel one is more committed unless on a very expensive flexible ticket. And there are more hotels than airlines out there.

@AndrewT, given that the principal benefit of Diamond is free breakfast, a discussion on the quality of that breakfast is germane to the topic. If the breakfast isn’t a big loss, slipping to Platinum isn’t a big loss.

HIX breakfast isn’t a diamond benefit!

Well I’m at a London Hilton tonight and definitely feeling the love. Booked 3 rooms for me and two girl pals, all of us given lounge access (or breakfast in the restaurant if we prefer), a cocktail voucher each, rooms were all ready at 1pm and I got an email and text welcoming me as HH gold. And what I think is brilliant is that you get a £10 bar credit if you forego housekeeping, which is miles better than 500 IHG points!

I’d rather book a chain hotel that will let me check in when I arrive rather than have a fixed 3pm check in, that gives free drinks in the evening and which includes breakfast without having to beg for them to include it in advance, but different people prefer different things so all of these posts telling others whats better for them seems rather pointless.

    err yes, we know.

An even bigger result if you’re only there for one night! 😂

Is that a total of £10 or £10 per room?

You may call it begging, but it’s not because more often than not they’ll just give it to you without asking. People are too focused on the freebies instead of the bigger wins.

When you’ve left, could you share what the Hilton is? That’s good treatment for gold, and I’ve got some Hilton points to burn…

Going back on topic, I’ve now been downgraded to platinum. Will see whether I miss diamond – suspect I won’t miss it that much!

Joining in the breakfast chat, that’s one thing I like about hotel stays in Sweden. Places tend to offer tasty and healthy options – last stay was at Elite Hotel Adlon (nice, but not super-luxurious or anything) and the buffet included good wholegrain bread, a couple of types of oily fish, decent eggs, lots of veg, fruit and yoghurt…along with sweet options.

Going even more off-topic, I wonder if places buying in vac packed poached eggs will improve or worsen quality. I use a sous vide machine to poach eggs at home when I’ve got time – with good eggs, I prefer the results to doing it the old fashioned way, and it’s harder to mess up.

It was the DT Tower of London, sorry it wasn’t meant to be secret! The breakfast buffet both in the restaurant and lounge had a decent selection of fresh fruit and yoghurt as well as cooked items and cereal. The mushrooms were really good – cooked with parsley or something similar and not tinned. The nice wholegrain breads were only in the restaurant, though, but you could probably grab a few slices and take them into the lounge (next door) if you wanted.

There was actually no sign of the bar credit so you might need to chase it up – we didn’t want any more drinks so didn’t bother. It was per room.

We’re already committed to ICPL in May but would stay at the DT in future.

I can’t remember if I posted this already on here – lost by all the breakfast posts – but I’m now platinum also with my IC Ambassador free night still intact. Need to plan to spend this before July.

I’m now Platinum. Can’t see me staying anymore with just platinum.

How long before IHG offer some sort of fast track or status match to get their customers back?

im hoping soon as I’ve got 6 nights over 3 hotels coming up so would like them to count..

interestingly im being welcomed to SGP IC as a Diamond by their concierge over email for a stay this w/e so curious if they still actually see me as diamond until the end of the month which would certainly be handy..
