What is the cheapest way to book an Intercontinental hotel in Athens? No status any more or points. So I just book directly with them as Emyr and others would be a bit more expensive. We need to book 2 rooms for 3 nights so not looking to spend too much as will be out sightseeing.

Depends whether Emyr’s benefits outweigh the saving on the direct rate. If you have no status, I would think breakfast plus the $100 credit (if applicable) would be pretty good. Presumably you’d get the credit for both rooms so you could all have lunch or dinner at the hotel one day.

I’m still waiting for the intern to reappear and load some 40k IC nights, lol.

Cheapest will be through an independent travel agent. But as @NorthernLass says, that could be outweighed by breakfasts and the credit assuming you value them. I often still book with AMEX platinum for short stays despite access to B2B/net rates.

Emyr’s rate is usually the non members Best Flexible Rate so even the $100 credit and breakfast may still not be worth it over a basic non refundable rate,

I know I’ve done the calculations of both previously and he usually only works out better then there’s a 3-4-2 or similar offer.

And if you’re not interested in earning points or using status or don’t want a flexible rate then the likes of Expedia (and getting some cash back) might be your best bet for the cheapest deal.

Thanks everyone. BA Flyer that is exactly my experience too.
