Can I book a room in the UK using senior discount rates, even though I’m not old enough? My husband is 63 and will be staying with me.

I’m not sure about the Senior discount, but you’re better off using the Railcard discount. Unless it’s a cheap stay you’re probably saving enough to make it worth buying a Railcard just for the discount.

Yes, with IHG you can, Marriott too, at Hilton it’s 65. I’ve found at IHG the senior rate is often refundable for the same as an otherwise non-refundable rate.

I didn’t know about the Railcard discount.

Also take a look at the AARP, sometimes this gets you a better discount. As dougzz99 says often the rate may be similar to others but conditions such as cancellation terms, or slightly later checkout considerably better. I’ve had an aarp membership on and off since I was about 32.

Thank you everyone for your comments. I actually booked my stay using the railcard discount, but found a cheaper rate with senior discount nearer our stay. Unfortunately the deadline for cancelling the initial booking has now passed, but I know I can use that next time.
