Does anyone know if I book and pay online via IHG website, does it trigger the cash back? or it has to be paid at check in/check out to trigger the cash back?
ThanksWith IHG these offers work fine on pre-pay BUT you will often find the hotel can’t be bothered to take the payment in advance. This is especially true for elite members. You need to be prepared to call them up if nothing happens and insist they do it.
Thanks Rob. I am going to book for pay in advance non refundable option anyways.
I’ve found this – they just don’t take the payment until a couple of days before check-in. I tried to get the HI Leith to take payment earlier but they said they’d have to send me a form to fill in which I couldn’t be bothered with!
With the most recent set of offers I ended up moving some stays to IHG so that they fell within the offer period. They triggered the £75 rebate within 48 hours.
I’m now hoping there’s another offer in the autumn as I booked several non-refundable nights in Spain before I realised they weren’t taking the payment straight away!
I’ve booked 11 UK IHGs with the aim of taking advantage of this promo. 8 of them took payment within 3 days of booking.
However at one of the 3 which didn’t, I managed to get them to split the payment which got me to just over £300 on 2 cards… JDB may disapprove but one of the cards was my wife’s so I had to make sure they didn’t see the name when I put it in the machine (she wasn’t there 🙂 )
Is this a new ihg offer that’s appeared on folks cards?
As if so nothing on any of mine, and I’m in indigo in Manchester atm for a couple of nights. Most of us have got it on multiple Amex cards – I think it runs to June 9th. I don;t know if it was limited to a certain number of customers and so has now disappeared if you didn’t save it initially? It was mentioned on the Amex offers thread and Rob usually does an article when these offers appear.
I booked a Hilton this week on a pre-pay rate for a couple of months’ time, so after the Hilton offer ends, I was going to book the hotel anyway so any credit just to be a bonus, not a decision in booking. The hotel charged me a couple of days after the booking and the credit has come through.

@John – it’s not for me to approve or disapprove; that’s your issue. What you report is a clear breach of T&Cs for which you are most unlikely to suffer any consequences. The potential bigger issue is knowing your wife’s PIN – if she later suffered fraud on her account, she would usually be asked to sign an indemnity form (or give a similar verbal confirmation) confirming she hadn’t told anyone her PIN. At that point, if she falsely confirms, she moves from breaking T&Cs to committing an offence. Again, the chances of being caught are very low, but there are people in court every day on these sorts of issues. It’s remarkable how what some people consider very small transgressions can escalate upon examination. Most of us have got it on multiple Amex cards – I think it runs to June 9th. Ah I remember now, it was a month or two ago it went on, yeah I used them already, I eagerly thought it was another offer that went on with the post being only from yesterday. 😀
I’ve not received cashback on this offer. I’ve complicated this slightly by also having this spend over multiple transactions (the headline terms said more than 1 transaction), and Amex are rejecting the claim because the transaction wasn’t in person.
I think in practice the actual issue was multiple transactions (as they initially blamed that on the reason for rejecting, and the terms seem to be a bit of a mess here, but I’ve got a screenshot stating one or more transactions).
Given that the letter of the terms says in person, I guess I don’t have any comeback? But just wanted to share for information for others.
