Just got the email through. Looks like the IHG credit car is gone as of 27th June 2023.

    Roy.

Yes, just had the same email on my non-Premium IHG card – the offer is a bog-standard card with no cashback or points, so I’ll be closing it.

And the white one is ending at the same time. Feel less bad about losing the premium one in the Curve fallout now! It was good while it lasted.

That’ll be now looking at another hotel chain as well as a new credit card.

Not had the email yet, but I’ve just blooming-well paid my annual fee!

I’ve just had the email too.

Will buying ambassador keep my current status, it’s not up for renewal until December.

Hmmm… hope they don’t do this with the legacy Marriott card too !

I wonder if this means IHG will be looking (or may already have found?) a new UK credit card partner? 🤔

Also received the email, somewhat annoying as I’m sort of just over half-way to the voucher spend and has reduced my time to get there significantly. Not sure I will be able to hit the spend quick enough. Let’s hope there’s a new IHG partner in the offing.

Unless your anniversary date is between now and June, expect to have to take Creation to FOS to get your certificate, because they won’t give it to you even if you reach the spending.

Thankfully we’ve spent heavily on the card that just renewed and have already earned the voucher on the other, £1870 to spend in 2 months should be straightforward. It was only a matter of time, not holding my breath for an alternative, there’s been nothing Hilton for years.

My email says we still earn holiday night if we reach the spend. I can switch to this card for more day to day so should be able to trigger. Presume it will be valid for 1 year from time you hit 10k. My anniversary date is Feb 2024 so would be handy if it was Feb 2025 expiry but more likely to be June 2024.

I don’t know for certain, but I think Hilton might still be locked in with Barclaycard (despite the card no longer being open to new applicants). At least that’s what I tell myself hoping they might do a deal with Amex at some point!!

Should also get a pro rata refund, could possibly be the cheapest ever free night if your anniversary date and spend fall between now and the closure?

If they had already found a new partner, usually one would expect that to be announced at the same time and accounts transferred to the new provider with new terms to give that new firm a starting customer base. Not impossible of course, but makes it less likely there’s an immediate replacement.

What you are describing has literally never happened with an affinity arrangement ending in the UK, to my knowledge.

None of the MBNA affinity cards transferred anywhere; even the Virgin Atlantic ones (the new Virgin Money ones had recently become available when MBNA pulled the plug).

Didn’t happen with the IHG Barclaycard either, nor the JLP cards, nor the Post Office cards…

The normal course of action is one or a mixture of:
    a) cards are replaced by a non-affinity product, e.g. Costco Amex replaced by Amex Plat Cashback
    b) end date is advised and after that cards are closed
    c) customers are pointed to new affinity card and asked to reapply

When Barclaycard gave up IHG and Creation took over I had to apply for the Creation card as there was no transfer to the new provider. Seem to remember that I had both Barclaycard and Creation IHG cards at the same time.

Does that ever happen? For example, IHG used to be paired with Barclaycard. That closed, and Creation’s offering appeared – but I can’t imagine there being any scenario where Barclaycard would happily hand customers to Creation!

Barclaycard’s default was a “Barclaycard Platinum” when they stopped being an IHG partner.

Likewise. There was a decent overlap between Barclaycard and Creation.

boo… I’m the same, no need to hold a card with no benefits, just need to make sure I rinse £10k through it in time to trigger the free night…

Seems as tho Chase will be the partner in the US, but no offering for the UK

Just received my email from Creation stating the same about my premium card……oh well I’ll be closing my account with them at the end of June.

I’m pretty annoyed as it’s been such a great credit card for me. My annual membership is due in a few weeks time, but can’t really cancel it before then as I’ve really exceeded the spend threshold for my free night voucher.

I hope they honour the free night voucher…

I should keep my diamond status this year which is great as I’ve got several trips planned. I’m thinking that beyond next year I’ll just keep my ambassador status going and ensure I do at least one stay to keep my points alive.

I’m not sure what credit card to go for instead.. maybe just stick with Anex Gold until something crops up.

I really wish we could get the chase IHG cards here in the UK..

Hopefully Creation have learned their lesson from the closure of many IHG credit cardholders at the end of 2021, that by giving notice to close does not mean the benefits stop accruing, but I have to make a recommendation that an existing cardholder validates this with Creation.

Creation also need to be far more proactive in communicating pro-rata fee refunds, whether those who have spend £10k but whose anniversary is after the closure date will get their free night (they should) and by what date it is expected to be loaded to IHG.

Creation will have been planning this closure for some time, there is no good excuse that they shouldn’t have all this ready to go now (but many know how professional Creation are…!)

Rob mentioned a few weeks ago that there are no plans to close the Hilton Barclaycard to existing cardholders.
