Assuming that cancelling it won’t get me blacklisted from joining up in a few years to take advantage of the signing up bonus, whereas if I was on one of the free Amex cards and then decided to sign back upto platinum I’d still be considered a current customer?
No bonus for you again in the future if you choose to downgrade to another MR earning card.
No one can answer for you which option is better Things to consider:
– is your income going to drop in the future or other circumstances that might mean you won’t get the card again – I regret cancelling player 2’s BAPP as she has retired and Amex doesn’t accept household income anymore.
– can you earn enough points without regular big SUB – I would struggle to earn enough from normal spend. So I keep the nectar card and dip in and out of the premium cards
– do you need a pool of flexible points? Not everyone is willing to dump all their points into a particular reward program and loose flexibility.
– will you miss any Plat benefits so much that you are willing to give up future SUB.
