Hi looking for some advice please. We are looking to book 2 x reward flights in club to Mco, however we are waiting for some points to be transferred in to cover some of the balance. We also need to book a full fare in club from Gatwick to MCO, which at the moment they are saying is £2280 in the sale.
Last time we were full fare to mco was 2019 and I’m sure it was £1800 pp. we can’t book the full fare until the reward booking is secure so we are all on the same flight. Does anyone know if these “sale” prices are actually the sale or are these the normal prices all the time due to being such a holiday destination route. Don’t want to miss out a deal, if it is but going on what the cost used to be it seems pretty high and I wouldn’t be surprised if it was around this cost at all times. Any help appreciated. Thanks.
We never really know, of course. However fares are definitely softening to the US so it wouldn’t surprise me if we see things dropping ever lower as autumn moves on.
That said, if you want to fly at school holidays or over Christmas or Easter I don’t think you’re going to get much leeway.
Prices have gone up a lot since the pandemic. It’s difficult to say whether you’d get a better deal by waiting, but it’s generally agreed that “sale” prices” are often not that much of a bargain. Prices do tend to be very high when flights are first released, so if this is the case with your trip it might be worth waiting a few weeks.
There are regular BA “sales” throughout the year though, and I would be very surprised if there wasn’t another one before Christmas.
That’s great thanks Rob. I’m sure I checked the costs of flights before this sale and it wasn’t anymore than what they are saying is the “sale”. Maybe best to hedge our bets and not panic book just because they are saying it’s sale and we end up on different flights. It is in school holidays but closer to the end so hopefully that makes a difference.
Also, you could price up a BA holiday and see if this is better value for the 3rd person.
Thanks northernlass, it’s for end of May next yr and as a holiday package it’s an extra £3000 in opposed to splitting hotel/flights and using the points. 🤦♀️it’s £3000 more than what we paid for the same full fare package before the pandemic it’s crazy, so if we can get at current prices with points it’s roughly the same amount. I’m sure the points for flight redemption have increased a lot and the taxes have reduced slightly.
RFS pricing was introduced at the beginning of this year, Rob did a good series of articles at the end of December IIRC. If you haven’t been following all the developments that’s probably why award the pricing looks strange.
Have you checked flight plus car (if you need a car, obviously!)
