Hi,
I booked two nights at the Courtyard Paris Arcueil on a prepayed rate on Marriott.com. Today I received a message requesting payment via a fplynx.com link. I have never received such a message from a hotel before.
On the one hand, the fact that they have my booking details is moderately reassuring, but why would they need me to provide my credit card details again when I already provided them when booking? My card doesn’t seem to have been charged by Marriott yet, but I presume they could since they have the details.
Is this a scam? It seems like a relatively easy con for someone who has hacked their email say.
Thanks in advance,
Best wishes,
Tom
LoyaltyLobby reported a spate of these back in January – https://loyaltylobby.com/2025/01/03/now-fraudulent-payment-links-sent-to-sofitel-reservations-in-australia/
Might be the hotel’s email being hacked, but based on the scale of it, it might actually be a hack of the system the hotel uses to manage reservations/rooms/etc.
Maybe drop the hotel an email to check? Most of the world it’d certainly be a scam, but France sometimes does things oddly….
All of the Protea hotels I booked in South Africa did this, all were non ref bookings and they all sent a payment link outside Marriott’s system. I found it quite disconcerting
As Gagravarr said, many leaks observed recently from some centralised IT systems as random hotel bookings are targeted.
Call the hotel.
