Just doing some number crunching and am looking for some opinions.
I’m looking at LAX to KONA and was going to book Economy with Avios on AA . Cost would be 26000 Avios + £8.80 tax for the 2 of us plus baggage fees . I was then going to look upgrading to Economy Plus.
I then checked Book & Upgrade with Avios and that came out at 51500 Avios + £40.80 tax plus £ 1,140 cash for AA first class (I know the seats aren’t the best).
Does that seem a reasonable price? .Bearing in mind cash prices for 1st that flight are currently £1100 and also that it’s a nearly 6 hr flight.
Cheers
That sounds a lot of cash for a US domestic award flight. Is there no straight AA First availability? I would definitely go for that on a 6 hour flight.
But as BA gold you’ll get free checked baggage (plus lounge access which AA pax won’t get!), so economy wouldn’t necessarily be a deal breaker.
I’ve flown AA F and the seats were excellent, though it was on one of those (brand new) 787 MAX aircraft which possibly aren’t flying any more!

Nope, only showing Economy availability on the BA site but AA site shows reward availability . Guess I need to research and work out how to get an accurate figure .
My Gold might have lapsed by then, unfortunately!!!
The plane is an A321 Neo so the seats are just recliners.
I think the problem you have is AA have differing award pricing and BA can only book into that when it’s at the cheapest level (used to be known as sAAver – not sure if that has changed).

Ahh that makes sense. Thanks
I think I might just book the Economy and see what upgrade options it offers. I can cope with the 6hrs as it’s a day flight but the offers will inform my tactics for the flight back to Phoenix which is overnight.
