Looking for some inspiration to spend our points on next year, we are hoping for somewhere warm in January. It will be for my wife and I and we will have an 8 month year old. I’ve only considered Dubai and BA at this moment in time, though can’t seem to work out exactly which flights club suites are on.
We have:
116,000 Avios;
1 Companion Voucher (We will have a second one in the not too distant future, though assume this won’t make any odds unless we bring another two people?)
82,000 Membership points
100,000 Marriott (With Gold Status, along with Hilton)
Should I stray away from British Airways? I am only focusing on them because of my companion voucher.
Any suggestions much appreciated. I know this is probably a simple question but this will be my first real redemption after getting into this world of points for a couple of years.
SeatSpy Map, the Where Can I Go, tool is quite good if you are interested in a specific time frame and unsure about destination. The map is only available to paying customers but they offer a free one month trial, enough time to search, choose and book.
Maldives in January are great 🙂

Ooh had not considered Maldives! Average weather looks great 🙂
Avios seats to MLE and other really popular destinations are long gone for January, though you may find that the 241 opens up more availability.
Club Suite is never guaranteed, so you’re best deciding on which destinations you would be happy with, where there is currently availability. If you convert your MR points to avios, you’ll then have nearly 200k which will get you a return to somewhere warm in CW/CS with your 241. If you want to spend more money and fewer avios, there are various pricing options.
You can use avios on Qatar, but not the 241.
If you’re considering Dubai, what about Abu Dhabi? Slightly less blingy but still loads to see if interested and resort type hotels on Yas Island. Loads of redemption availability and in Jan (currently) BA using CS (obvs not guaranteed)

I will have a good look! With baby, a resort is exactly what we are looking for 🙂

Saadiyat Island is better on resorts than Yas. Yas is more urban and has theme parks.
Abu Dhabi and Dubai are so close that the airports are interchangeable. The two cities are separated only by a cheap Uber ride.
Simply so you have some other ideas, Nairobi (you’d want to connect to Mombasa for a beach) or the Caribbean. MRU would be good but it’s a long flight from Gatwick.
Redemptions are identical with BA for Doha, Dubai and Abu Dhabi from LHR. For weather and type of hotel, think these tick most boxes (have done Dubai).
Now to try and find the best flight option and hotel! 😀
You might be really lucky and find F availability with one of these. In this case, book each leg separately following the advice on here (especially the “Booking the return with the 241” thread), so you don’t end up getting overcharged on the cash element.
*Indeed, DXB is showing F for Jan 14/20/21 on SeatSpy – and actually the price differential isn’t huge, so it may be more convenient to book it all in one go.

£120-150 one way and 100 miles You make this seem like Euston to Edgware Road.

My Abu Dhabi hotel arranged a transfer to DXB for £58 when I was over there for business recently; the trip took about 1.5 hours. I’ve had a slower and more expensive taxi journey between JFK and Manhatten.
