Forums Hotel loyalty schemes IHG One Rewards Kimpton Fitzroy London 5th August stayers

  • 702 posts

Those with long memories will recall that there was an IHG “intern” points rate many months ago for 5th August only, and quite a number of HfP readers used it and seemed to all end up booked at the Kimpton Fitzroy in London on this night as a result.

I’m staying and having dinner with my family at Galvin there tomorrow (5th August) night, but if anyone would like to have a drink in the bar any time after 9.30PM then just drop me an Email at SavageSquirrelofHfP at gmail.com as I never got to a HfP event so would be very nice to meet some more fellow readers.

What a lovely suggestion. I’m not staying but I’m not far away. My son is threatening to pop over, if that falls through I may be free to swing in for a glass of wine.

I had a feeling someone was going to suggest this. I had booked to stay here, and would have been down for an informal HFP meet up. I have wrote in the chat thread today explaining my situation so I unfortunately won’t be there tonight. I hope you all have a great stay.

Best wishes to you and your wife; there are exciting times ahead! Fair play, Kimpton – great that your friends could still use your stay.

    We are staying tonight.

Trying to get some rush tickets for a show this evening (seeing Groundhog Day at the Old Vic for a matinee). If that falls through I will see if we can pop down to the bar 🙂 Being based outside of London means I’ve never been to a HfP meet up either!

I think we’ll be missing the social hour though, unfortunately!

The current secret password is “no shade”.

Staying tonight, hitting the social hour at 5pm,then pre theatre dinner before heading to the county hall for a show. May see you guys in the bar later. Do we wear a red carnation so we recognise fellow Hfp’s?

I was there for a night last week, no doubt paying a lot more than you lot did but I was happy with the redemption value I got and it was using up points I’ve had for years and never previously found a use for. The lass checking us in said “you’ve been upgraded” with a bit of a smirk, which I took to mean the room was facing the stairwell instead of the bins! But no, we’d been given a suite. Room 302 for those of you in the know. I can’t remember ever staying in a suite before; posh hotels aren’t really my thing. The whole stay was great – the building is amazing, the staff were great and I loved our suite and the roll top bath.

Social hour was in the room behind Burr & Co and “no shade” got us 2 x drinks vouchers in Burr & Co which we used for a nightcap. I had a Keekin’ Glass cocktail which was unusual but delicious. Thanks to Anna for confirming the social hour hours.

If anyone is looking for a venue for dinner, we went to The Orrery in Marylebone, the scene of our first ever posh dinner together many, many years ago when it was a Conran restaurant. It was great and the summer set menu (only served 6 – 7pm, not on Saturdays) at £45 for 3 courses and a glass of champagne was excellent and remarkable value, although we had a brief “debate” with the waiter who denied all knowledge of it at first which wasn’t a good start. The Orrery is part of the £150 Amex Platinum local dining offer plus it’s included in their current 10% back every time dining offer too.

I asked Mrs S if she wanted to go to social hour and her exact reply was. “Wine? And it’s free? Hell yes!” Mrs S is from Yorkshire and is incredibly tight likes value for money.

We should be identifiable by me looking faintly disreputable wearing a blue hoodie with the Somerset wyvern crest (cricket) and Kukri on it, Mrs S looking radiant, and two squirrel kittens surgically welded to their device screens.

Thanks for organising Savage … hope we do that another time…
